Chris Froome would be happy to play a supporting role in the Olympic road race if he felt Geraint Thomas or another team-mate was better placed to challenge for gold in Rio.

Team Sky's Froome has set himself a double-target of challenging at the Tour de France and the Olympics this summer, even eyeing a road race and time trial double in Brazil.

However, he added: "I'd be happy playing a role if it meant we could have an Olympic champion."

Mauricio Pochettino news conferencepublished at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2016

West Ham v Tottenham (Wed, 19:45 GMT)

Two points off the top, Mauricio Pochettino is trying to play down any talk that his Tottenham side are under pressure.

He says: "I think we're in a good place, but for us it is always the same - we just try to win the next game.

"Leicester are top and have the pressure, as do all the teams below, but we aren't feeling any pressure. We just need to keep our level and see what happens. It is too early to predict the end.

"At the beginning of the season our objective was to reduce the gap with the team that was at the top. We've learned a lot and have improved a lot, but we need to keep fighting. We're in a very good position, but there are still 11 games to play."

Former Everton striker Daniel Amokachi has told BBC World Service that Romelu Lukaku reminds him of the former Ballon d'Or winner George Weah.

Lukaku, 22, is one of the top scorers in the Premier League this season and in July 2014 cost Everton a club record fee of £28 million.

“He has the speed, he has the skills, he is good with his head,” says Amokachi, who played for the Toffees between 1994 and 1996 and was part of the team that won Everton's last trophy, the 1995 FA Cup.

West Ham have urged their fans to behave during tomorrow's derby showdown with Tottenham.

The fixture has been marred in the past by incidents of anti-Semitic chanting as well as violence, with one man stabbed before the meeting at White Hart Lane in November.

Hammers manager Slaven Bilic said: "The message is I would like the fans to be behind us, to be behind the team, behind the club in a positive way

"The fans are ambassadors of our club and they can show the world that we are big, great and a polite club."

Liverpool, ninth in the Premier League, entertain a Manchester City side on Wednesday that need to win to keep up their title hopes.

But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is not too bothered, when asked about the title race.

"For us it is not too interesting, that's not the best news but it is the truth," says Klopp. "I don't know who is the favourite, normally it is the team first in the table.

"We need to get some points and the game on Sunday showed it is possible for us to win against City. I don't worry about who can win the league, I only worry about how we can win tomorrow."

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed Yaya Toure is a doubt for tomorrow's game at Liverpool with an injury to his right foot. He will make a decision tomorrow.

Pellegrini also said he had not chosen his side for Anfield but Raheem Sterling will be picked for his first return to Liverpool.

"Players that cannot play in a difficult environment are not top players. I have 100% trust in him," he said.

Pellegrini said it was too early to say who were the favourites for the title but accepted that Leicester and Tottenham are the leaders so they are the obvious ones. However, he also said that if City won tomorrow he expected them to be involved 'until the end'.
