Is Rafael Benitez the right man for Newcastle?

Alex Robertson: Certainly was the best man for the job, could easily see him getting a Europa League spot next season without a doubt.

Ronnie Williams: If we stay up it be interesting to see who he keeps and sells and seeing if he is allowed to pick the players he wants.

Steven Bell: Not the right man, should have gone for someone used to scrapping at the bottom, but then that wouldn't have pleased the fans..

Rob Kearney has been ruled out of Saturday's Six Nations clash with Scotland, paving the way for Simon Zebo to continue at full-back.

Kearney missed Saturday's 58-15 win over Italy with hamstring trouble and, after further assessment today, Ireland have been forced to admit defeat in the British and Irish Lion's fitness bid.

Uncapped Munster flyer Andrew Conway has joined Ireland's squad as cover ahead of Saturday's final Six Nations game in Dublin.

A quick reminder of what happened earlier in the cricket, with England winning their final World Twenty20 warm-up game by 14 runs... despite one of their own bowlers, David Willey, taking a hat-trick against them.

Playing in a Mumbai Cricket Association XI, left-armer Willey removed Joe Root, Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan with the last three balls in England's 177-8.

The hosts replied with 163-6 as James Vince, another England player, made 45 at the Brabourne Stadium.

Riyad Mahrez takes on Newcastle's injured defender Paul Dummett back in November 2015Image source, AFP

Riyad Mahrez looks to have shaken off a hamstring strain he picked up in the win at Watford last weekend. You would think then that Rafa Benitez would be looking to combat the Algerian winger's creativity.

Being able to play on both wings, it will be the job of Newcastle's full-backs, presumably Janmaat and Taylor with an injury to Paul Dummett, to ensure Mahrez has a quiet game. But do not be surprised if Benitez shows extreme caution and also relies on Jack Colback to drop in on him when he drifts inside.

Will Benitez be a success at Newcastle? Should he have taken the job? Should the Magpies have named a manager with more experience of title races than relegation battles?

Butt says England shouldn't pick Rashfordpublished at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

Manchester United head of academy Nicky Butt has warned England against picking teenage striker Marcus Rashford for Euro 2016.

Earlier this month, England manager Roy Hodgson left the door open for 18-year-old Rashford to make his squad after scoring four goals in his first two games for United.

But former United and England midfielder Butt told BBC Sport: "I think that's well too soon for Marcus. I think it could backfire on everybody really, and might not be the right thing for him.

"I'm not telling an England manager what to do, it's his job to pick whoever he feels. But for me he's a young boy who's still learning the game and has got a long way to go yet."

Paul Robertson: It's not about big or little. It's rich or poor. Great that some of the teams that can't afford to buy success being successful.

Graeme Tierney: Whatever happens in the replay, four good teams will be in the semis. That they aren't top four at present adds to the FA Cup story.

Andrew Neill: Wait, the FA Cup is still going on?!!? I thought it stopped in January!!! (An NUFC fan)

Former England captain Will Carling also talked about the controversy surrounding Joe Marler, who faces a ban for calling Samson Lee a "Gypsy boy".

"I've heard far worse on pitches, been called far worse myself, which I was genuinely upset about," he said.

"With microphones around anything that's racist is going to get picked up on. Anything that comes into the racist category is not clever and it shouldn't be in people's heads."

Asked if Marler will get banned, Carling replied: "If they categorise this as definite racism then yes he has to get banned, doesn't he? It's a silly mistake by him."

Former England captain Will Carling says Chris Robshaw has stood out like a beacon in the Six Nations campaign.

“He deserves huge credit and six as always been the position he probably should have played in," said Carling.

"I think Chris has been outstanding. I think some of the young players Eddie Jones is starting to bring in - like Itoje - are very, very impressive as characters as well as players which is long term the really great sign for England.”

'Scottish expectation is changing'published at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    Rugby union

    Tom English
    BBC Sport Scotland

"From the time the scrum was set to the moment Stuart Hogg's footwork got him over the French line for Scotland's opening try, the ball went through the hands of 13 different Scottish players in 14 phases that lasted one minute and 48 seconds.

"These numbers are hardly revelatory. We've seen them from Scotland before against France and England and Ireland and Wales and pretty much everybody else you care to mention. We've seen Scotland hold on to the ball for an age in games like this. For a decade and more we've seen them batter their way from halfway, across the opposition 22 and up to the try-line.

"And then we've seen it all go wrong.

"Not just seen it, but expected it. The expectation is changing, though. Murrayfield's fatalistic attitude is under threat now that Scotland have backed-up their win in Rome with their first win over France in 10 years. The 29-18 scoreline is also their biggest win over France in 17 years. This is the kind of history that Scotland want to be involved in."

'No place in the game' for Marler quotespublished at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2016

    Rugby union

Wales have had a news conference today. Here are the best lines:

Assistant coach Rob Howley says there is "no place in the game" for the "Gypsy boy" remark made by England's Joe Marler to Samson Lee.

Howley says Tomas Francis' eyes were closed when he made contact with Dan Cole's eye area: "He doesn't know what he's doing."

After coach Warren Gatland said his players’ first-half against England was "unacceptable", Howley said: “It’s not just the players, it’s the back room and coaching staff. Please don’t try and divide and conquer here in terms of the players and the coaches.”
