Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal refused praised his side's effort three days after being beaten by Liverpool last week in the Europa League.

"The difference was that we have played a match on Thursday and West Ham have the whole week of preparation," said Van Gaal.

"In the second half we were the better team, they scored a free-kick, so we are behind and have also played against WBA and Liverpool this week and lost.

"But when you can come back from that I think it is amazing spirit in the team in spite of a very nasty week."

A much happier man is West Ham boss Slaven Bilic, who "fancies" his side to beat Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Upton Park - the last cup tie there.

The teams drew 1-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday with the winners of the replay moving into the semi-finals at Wembley.

"It's going to be a tough game, but I fancy us because we're going to be even more confident," Bilic said.

"Manchester United are a different team when they play away from home and don't have that same confidence."

No Arsenal fan - even Arsene Wenger's fiercest detractors - would wish to see a wonderful career peter out to the soundtrack of growing criticism after bringing three titles, which also included two doubles with the FA Cup, and six FA Cup triumphs in all.

There comes a time, however, when any manager's recent record must be subjected to close scrutiny, irrespective of the past. It is not a vendetta or a personal campaign against Wenger, simply an examination of unflattering facts.

It is the law, the reality, of football management.

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores reckoned his side's FA Cup quarter-final win at holders Arsenal was the "most important moment" of his career.

The Hornets won 2-1 at the Emirates on Sunday thanks to goals from Odion Ighalo and Adlene Guedioura.

It is the first FA Cup defeat Arsenal have suffered in 37 months and continues Watford's impressive season.

"We try to enjoy this moment, this team, this journey. We get to play in a semi-final at Wembley," said Flores. "This season is an amazing season for Watford, the players play for the fans. I think this is the most important moment of my career."

Well done that man and to Watford, who were worthy winners.
