Martin O'Neill's Republic of Ireland also claimed three points, although Georgia ran them a lot closer than expected, dominating the first-half, before succumbing 1-0 in the second.

Captain-for-the-night Seamus Coleman scored what can only be described as an awful goal - seriously, look it up - but as my old Sunday league manager used to say, they all count, and in that same vicious World Cup qualifying group as Wales, you really need to be winning your home matches.

And Coleman said he was proud of his team's "courage" after that 2-2 draw.

"We didn't play well tonight, but we still found a way to hold onto something," said Coleman.

"I think it's a point gained, it wasn't our best performance.

"In terms of quality with the ball we gave away a lot of possession, we made a lot of mistakes and we looked indecisive, which is not something you can say about this team on too many occasions."

One man who's credentials are definitely not in question is Wales boss Chris Coleman.

After their wonderful European Championships performance in the summer, attention had turned to whether they could follow that up in a difficult World Cup qualifying group.

Perhaps their sternest test in qualifying came last night in the form a trip to Austra, but Coleman's men passed with flying colours, earning a more than respectable 2-2 draw, which could have been more with the men in red leading twice thanks to a Joe Allen strike and an own-goal from Tottenham's Kevin WImmer.

'England the most overrated side'published at 08:38 British Summer Time 7 October 2016

    Football

The world of football is really enjoying sticking the boot into England at the moment, isn't it?

Iceland's players were told they would face "the most overrated national team" before their 2-1 Euro 2016 win over England, according to Eidur Gudjohnsen.

"[Former manager] Lars Lagerbeck pointed out that in recent years we are playing against the most overrated national team side - looking back it is true."

And Gudjohnsen always seemed so nice when he was playing for Bolton and Chelsea...

One match. 67 days. Sam Allardyce's reign as England boss was ignominious to say the least. Now it's the turn of Gareth Southgate.

The cynical amongst you may well point out that the Under-21 gaffer - in charge of the seniors on a four-match placement - won't have to do much to be an improvement on his predecessor.

One thing is for sure, if he fails to beat Malta in his first game in charge on Saturday, they won't be saying that for long.

  6. 'Paralympics have plenty of room for improvement'published at 08:27 British Summer Time 7 October 2016

To accompany her visit, Hannah has also written a column on her "love-hate" relationship with the word 'inspirational' and why Paralympians should get more prize money.

"Winning a Paralympic gold is now seen as equal, in terms of achievement, to an Olympic gold and our sport, our nation, has progressed so much.

"But, even though things have got better, there is still plenty of room for improvement."

Read what she has to say here.
