Raith had options - SPFLpublished at 09:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Football

"Raith Rovers had a number of options open to them once their only fit goalkeeper was injured," said the SPFL.

"They could have brought in an under-21 goalkeeper, or an out-of-contract goalkeeper of any age, in each case without any permission from the SPFL board.

"They could also have sought permission from the SPFL board to bring in a goalkeeper of any age on an emergency basis.

"All of these options were explained to Raith Rovers, who chose to do none of these things and instead requested a postponement on the day of the match."

SPFL hit back over goalkeepergatepublished at 09:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Football

Now then, the Scottish Professional Football League didn't hang around in having its say over what I'm inexplicably going to call Raith's goalkeepergate.

Raith Rovers had plenty of ways to sign a new goalkeeper rather than play midfielder Ryan Stevenson in their 1-0 loss to Ayr United, according to the SPFL.

Injury worry for Durantpublished at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Basketball

Golden State Warriors' leading scorer Kevin Durant will undergo an MRI scan after injuring his knee in his side's 112-108 loss at Washington Wizards.

Durant, the 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player, limped out of Tuesday's game in the first minute after team-mate Zaza Pachulia fell on his left leg.

Toronto face trip to Londonpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Rugby League

Canadian newcomers Toronto Wolfpack will face a stern test in the fourth round after being drawn against former finalists London Broncos.

The Wolfpack, who overcame Halifax amateur club Siddal 14-6 in the third round last Saturday, will face the former Super League club in the capital on the weekend of 18-19 March.

The draw also paired Bradford and Featherstone together in a repeat of the 1973 final while amateurs Haydock, the only community club left in the draw, will visit Oldham.

Four of the Super League clubs will join the competition at the following round stage while the remaining eight enter in round six.

'One to tick off the bucket list'published at 09:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

It's not the first time Stevenson has gone between the sticks.

The 32-year-old played in goal for the final five minutes of Partick Thistle's 4-0 defeat by Hearts in October 2015 after Ryan Scully was sent off with the Jags having used all of their substitutes.

But he wants his stint in goal on Tuesday to be his last.

"It was a strange experience," said Stevenson, who revealed he was wearing gloves belonging to Dundee United goalkeeper Cammy Bell.

"I didn't want to let the boys down and I suppose it's something I can tick off the bucket list.

    'It's making a mockery'published at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

    Football

The Kirkcaldy club had gone without a goalkeeper on the bench for their previous three matches.

Conor Brennan injured a foot in Saturday's loss to Queen of the South, while Kevin Cuthbert and Aaron Lennox are recovering from injuries sustained earlier this year.

Raith boss John Hughes wasn't impressed that their request for a postponement was rejected by the SPFL board.

He told BBC Scotland: "It's just making a mockery of it, isn't it? They need to have a right good look at themselves."

Anyone want to go in net?published at 09:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2017

In other unusual football goings-on, Raith Rovers were last night forced to select midfielder Ryan Stevenson in goal.

Rovers had no fit keepers for Tuesday's Championship trip to Ayr United, but their request for a postponement was rejected by the SPFL board.

Stevenson conceded once as his side lost 1-0 to Ayr.

Talking of exchanging blows, it's big fight night on Saturday, with David Haye and Tony Bellew going all guns blazing for each other in the press since the Liverpudlian told Haye he looked like SpongeBob SquarePants, or did he mean Sideshow Bob? Who knows...

World number three McIlroy says he was taken aback by the extent of the criticism he received for playing golf with President Trump.

McIlroy, who returns to the PGA Tour in Mexico this week after nearly two months out with a rib injury, says he was called "a fascist and a bigot".

"It's not as if we were talking foreign policy out there," said the Northern Irishman. "We were talking golf."
