    Lions squad named

Here's some reaction from the New Zealand-born Worcester Warriors man Ben Te'o on his selection to tour the country of his birth with the Lions this summer.

He tells BBC Hereford and Worcester: "In the last few days I heard a lot of chat and build-up, and started to hear my name mentioned, and I started to get really nervous. They streamed the announcement into the team meeting (at Worcester), luckily I got picked and the guys are excited for me.

"I wish there hadn’t been any rumours, because it got me thinking. A few weeks ago, it wasn’t really on my mind, but when start mentioning it, it started ticking over in my head. I was really proud and relieved when the announcement came."

    'Everyone I know thinks I'm mad'published at 15:35 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

    Football

Harry Redknapp has three matches remaining this term to keep 20th placed Birmingham clear of the relegation zone, the first of which is against rivals Aston Villa on Sunday. "We need a win and a point," he says. "All I can do is instill a bit of confidence.

"But this is a club that should be pushing to get into the Premier League. The owners are ambitious."

Asked whether it is a no lose situation for him at St Andrews, Redknapp adds: "It’s a big lose for me. I’d hate it if it doesn’t work out. My wife thinks I’m mad. Everyone I know thinks I’m mad but I’m here."

Reaction to that Wilshere injury news from Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, is he suggesting that's it for the on-loan Arsenal man at the Cherries, having previously hinted at a permanent deal for the 25-year-old midfielder?

"It is a big blow to lose Jack," Howe says.

"He has made a huge contribution to our season, both on and off the pitch. We wish him a quick recovery and thank him for his effort and professionalism while he was with us."

  11. Moriarty's birthday surprisepublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

British and Irish Lions squad announcement

Wales flanker Ross Moriarty was 23 yesterday - and got a birthday surprise with a call-up to the British and Irish Lions squad a day later.

Moriarty enjoyed a fine Six Nations campaign despite Wales' three defeats, keeping usual first-choice number eight Taulupe Faletau out of the team.

The Gloucester player was rewarded with a place in Warren Gatland's 41-man Lions squad to tour New Zealand.

"This is Christmas and birthday all wrapped up in one," said Moriarty.

"I don't think it's sunk in properly yet - I was pretty emotional after that. It was a surprise with so many big names in that squad.

"The list was getting longer and longer and my doubt was setting in, I just couldn't believe it.

"I listened to it on my phone at the same time as everyone else. I was sitting in a restaurant trying to eat my food."

He is usually good for a quip and here is one from news Blues boss Harry Redknapp: "Birmingham are not a team I’ve seen much of. In fact nothing of. They’re not on TV very much."

Asked about how he has been spending his time recently the 70-year-old adds: "I've been coaching some under-10s. I love football. If I’m wanted, I’ll always pop up somewhere."

Now then, let's hear from Harry Redknapp as the new Birmingham boss (still feels odd writing that) gives his first news conference.

"I haven't signed a contract," he says. "It wasn't a money deal. It was a challenge to get me back in doing something I enjoy.

"It's a big club, a challenge, a big challenge. I'm looking forward to it."

Harry's first match in charge is the small matter of the Birmingham derby at Steve Bruce's Aston Villa on Sunday at high noon.

Alberto Salazar (left) has been under investigation since claims of doping and unethical practices were made in a 2015 BBC documentary

The doctor who treated Mo Farah with a controversial infusion is set to give evidence to MPs on Wednesday.

The infusion of the legal supplement L-carnitine, given to Farah before the 2014 London Marathon, is being looked at by the US Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) to determine whether rules were broken.

Dr Robin Chakraverty carried out the treatment on the instruction of Farah's American coach Alberto Salazar.

He will appear before the Culture, Media and Sport Committee at 14:30 BST., external

Man Utd v Anderlecht (Thu, 20:05 BST)

    Manchester United

    Jose MourinhoImage source, PA

    BBC Radio Manchester's Bill Rice:

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says French forward Anthony Martial needs to deliver what he wants from a United player if he wants to play more for the Reds.

He also said, in the pre-match news conference, how forward Marcus Rashford is a player he trusted to play even during his long time without a Premier League goal.

Mourinho also admitted he really doesn't know if qualifying for the Champions League will decide if Zlatan Ibrahimovic stays at the club next season, but refused to be drawn on if ending his career by winning the Europa League in Stockholm would be the perfect finish for the Swedish striker. He said it would be "beautiful" but "no more than that", and the "perfect finale to the season for the team".

Mourinho also says Wayne Rooney will be on the bench for the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Anderlecht if he had a positive training session on Wednesday.

He also says keeper Sergio Romero will start.

Murray happy to negotiate opening hurdlepublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 19 April 2017

    Tennis

Andy Murray survives some technical faults with the headset to give his response to victory over Gilles Muller, his first ATP Tour match since sustaining that elbow injury in March.

Murray was 2-0 and 4-2 down in the first set and said: "I haven't been in the best rhythm on serve because I only started serving at full speed four or five days ago. I knew it would take a bit of time but I wasn't expecting to start serving like that.It was a tricky first match, he is not a typical clay court player."

Asked about his next challenge against world number 24 Albert Ramos-Vinolas, another left-hander, Murray added: "He's always a tough guy, I've practised with him quite a bit and he competes hard and doesn't give anything away."
