Karsten Warholm is looking strong isn't he? He's the favourite for the hurdles but he's strong on the flat too. He's a contender.

Martyn Rooney will be disappointed he's not in the final, but he is rewarded with a season's best, so still a decent day for him.

There is no Lazarus revival in Martyn Rooney's form. He comes in in 45.73 seconds - a season's best but not good enough.

Martyn Rooney is the defending champion, twice over, after victories in Zurich and Amsterdam.

He has been short of that form so far this season though with a best of only 46.01 seconds.

That is the slowest of a semi-final that also includes world 400m hurdles champion Karsten Warholm.

Greg Rutherford - the British defending champion - has called it a day after deciding that his form was not good enough to come and attempt one last major championships hurrah.

In his absence, Dan Bramble is the British representative.

Bramble is the fourth best this season of the final line-up.

Czech Radek Juska is the leading jumper in Europe this year.

I was watching Matt Hudson-Smith's commitment down the last straight and it was very strong.

At the 300m mark he was on about 31.8 - so after you've done that you can afford to shut down in the closing stages. A very, very special performance.

    Well, well, well.

That was hugely impressive from Matt Hudson-Smith who throttles down and coasts in from 40m out.

He still clocks a time just 0.13 seconds off his year's personal best.

Jonathan Borlee is second, while Dwayne Cowan is fifth and will miss the final.

Welcome the most laid-back man in athletics. Possibly sport. Maybe the entirety of human history.

Matt Hudson-Smith is the smiling assassin in the 400m. The Briton is also the fastest man in Europe this year.

He is training with American bright young thing Noah Lyles out in America now. Enjoy this rather rambling, charming interview below and then lock in for his heat.

Belgian Jonathan Borlee is likely to provide the most heat with another Briton Dwayne Cowan also in the race.

I want to see her smile when she realises she has done enough. It is a new season's best for Meghan and now we have two women in the final on Friday. I'm not sure she realised how fast everyone else was going to go. She ran a good race. One thing you can always say about her is that she is a gutsy runner. She's focused on what is in hand and she knows her capabilities.

Britain's Kirsten McAslan speaking to BBC: "I felt a bit flat from the start. I felt good warming up and thought I'd recovered well from yesterday but I just didn't really have it. I struggled to hit my stride pattern properly.

"I'm quite disappointed as I thought I could do a better performance than that. I've been doing it for a year though so I'm hoping next year will be the year I make a big improvement.

"I didn't really know what I was capable of. I know I can do much more than I showed which is annoying but it's good to be here."
