For the 15th consecutive season, there will be a new Super Bowl champion as even though the New England Patriots have been dominant, defending the title is just so hard to do.

Three of the four teams remaining missed out on the play-offs last season, only the Chiefs made it last year, but there's no shortage of Lombardi trophies in either San Francisco or Green Bay.

    Super Bowl wins by team.

Ben Dunbar: What is Tramaine Brock (#Titans, external #35) doing on that Mahomes TD run? Drop your shoulder and hit him below the waist, man.

Rakesh Pradhan: If Patrick Mahomes has not missed games through injury, he would have been MVP again. He doesn't run like MVP elect Lamar Jackson but he is such a leader and a brilliant playmaker.

Kansas City Chiefs 21-17 Tennessee Titans

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the AFC title game last season of course, when they came within one play of beating the New England Patriots. A late Tom Brady interception was ruled out after Dee Ford lined up offside - just one misplaced hand cost them a place in the Super Bowl!

Ford isn't with the Chiefs now, but he's playing later for the San Francisco 49ers against the Green Bay Packers. Can the Chiefs go one better in the second half?

Twice the Titans held a 10-point lead, but they trail by four at the halfway point. That man Mahomes has taken the Chiefs to a 21-17 advantage in what is looking like a potential classic.

Do not miss this second half no matter what you do.

But the Chiefs can do better than that! Patrick Mahomes skips past two challenges, dashes down the left then spins past another challenge for a 27-yard touchdown. Weren't expecting that!

Harrison Butker kicks the extra point.

The Chiefs have been behind for most of this half, but in the final 30 seconds of it they take the lead for the first time.

Andrew Priestley: Why are the Titans leaving Tyreek Hill one-on-one? Play with fire and you’ll get burnt. And that’s twice now.

Not a stat you'd have considered for tonight but, at 321lbs, Titans back-up tackle Dennis Kelly has just become the heaviest player to make a touchdown catch in the NFL play-offs.

But it doesn't take long for the Chiefs to bring it back to a three-point game. The combination of Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill had led to a touchdown in the first quarter and they do the same in the second.

This time the pass from Mahomes is absolute perfection and a 20-yard touchdown is then followed by Harrison Butker's extra point.

With the first attempt, Derrick Henry again tries the through the middle approach, but is unsuccessful.

It's clever play from the Titans though as they fake that he's going to do it again on second down, but that leaves Dennis Kelly free in the end zone and he is found by Ryan Tannehill for a one-yard touchdown.

Greg Joseph continues his flawless game so far with the boot to add the extra.

The Titans held a 10-point advantage in the first quarter and do so again in the second.

The Titans are getting close here as they are progressing nicely down the field. Now to the 13-yard line.

Well, they were progressing well until a 10-yard penalty for holding on Jack Conklin sends them back a bit.

A chance for the Titans to extend their lead. Ryan Tannehill goes long, but the pass is agonisingly just out of the reach of a diving Anthony Firkser. So close to a great start to the second quarter from the Titans.
