Scott Pioli worked in the NFL for 27 years, most notably with the New England Patriots as they claimed their first three Super Bowl wins, and the award-winning team executive was in the UK last week, sharing his experience with staff and players at the NFL Academy, based in Loughborough. He also took some time out to chat with BBC Sport ahead of this year's London games.

“I’m excited that it’s a bit earlier in the season and you’ll get teams that will start hitting their stride now, in terms of getting their act together," he said.

“I look at all the London games, and whether it’s at Wembley or Tottenham, you’re going to see some good football teams and some good players.

“There’s this tendency to overreact to what just happened most recently. The Jaguars lost last week [to the Houston Texans] but they’re a pretty good football team. The Falcons are a good football team, as are the Bills, Titans and Ravens.

“The folks here in the UK are going to see some high-quality football, and I’m excited to see what the fan reaction will be.”

We've already had some NFL action this week with the regular Thursday night game - in which the Detroit Lions turned over divisional rivals Green Bay.

Running back David Montgomery returned from a thigh injury to score three touchdowns as the Lions beat the Packers 34-20 to go top of the NFC North.

Montgomery, 26, missed Detroit's win against the Wembley-bound Atlanta Falcons last week but was able to steer his side to a 27-3 advantage by half-time in Wisconsin.

The Lions are 3-1 to lead the division, while the Packers are 2-2 in second.

Yep, that's it for the first half at Wembley as Jacksonville let the clock wind down and are happy enough to walk off with a 17-point lead.

Calvin Ridley's touchdown against his old team and a pick six from Darious Williams have put the Jags firmly in control.

The Falcons need a drastic improvement in the second half to get back into this - particularly from quarterback Desmond Ridder who has thrown two interceptions and is fortunate that figure isn't more.

We'll grab a quick break while the players do and be back in a few minutes' time.

Those hopes are ended with a much-needed Atlanta sack on Trevor Lawrence.

That should be the end of the first half.

Such a contrast between the confidence of Trevor Lawrence and that of his Falcons counterpart Desmond Ridder.

Lawrence isn't settling for a 17-0 lead as he finds Christian Kirk with an accurate pass out near the sidelines.

Just under half a minute left in the first half.

It's another Atlanta punt and it's hard to see how they can get back into this.

A minute left for Jacksonville to put more points on the board to deepen the Falcons' misery.

This is getting ugly for Desmond Ridder. I know Atlanta won their first two games of the season, but is he really the future for the Falcons?

Their last visit to London was only two years ago but they've since had to move on from Matt Ryan and Marcus Mariota as their starting quarterbacks. Are they gonna have to go find another soon?

A short Bijan Robinson run gains Atlanta a couple of yards but they still have the length of the field to negotiate to get points on the board with just two minutes of the first half remaining.

And if quarterback Desmond Ridder tries to get ambitious, well we've seen how that's turned out thus far...

Now then.

Jacksonville get greedy.

They fail to turn that turnover into points as, on fourth-down-and-one, they reject the straightforward field goal and are stopped short.

The ball goes back to Atlanta on downs and Desmond Ridder will be a relieved man.

It’s a tale of two quarterbacks.

When I said Ridder was one of the worst starting quarterbacks, that was not because I don’t like him.

It’s because it is a fact. Ridder is having an absolute shocker of a game here.

Desmond Ridder wants the Wembley turf to open up and swallow him hole right now.

An aimless throw, straight after that previous interception, is straight to Andre Cisco.

He races forwards and fumbles the ball but a team-mate recovers it and it's another turnover for the Jags.

That's how the stadium announcer greeted that touchdown from Darious Williams. That's gotta hurt the Falcons fans.

The Jags fans though? They're loving it. Already a party atmosphere here with Jacksonville firmly in charge.

Now then, the Falcons will be getting nosebleeds.

They're in Jacksonville territory after a Ridder pass to Jonnu Smith is followed by two short - but long enough - runs from Bijan Robinson.

My, Bijan Robinson has got skills. That one-handed catch was frankly ludicrous.

Not only did he stick his left arm out to reel in that screen pass by Desmond Ridder but he then seamlessly started running to gain a few more yards after the catch.

Atlanta need more moments of magic like that if they're to get this offense going.

Atlanta cannot get anything going on offense.

But Bijan Robinson looks a special talent.

The running-back needs eight yards for a first down and hauls in a short catch one-handed while looking at a defender, before evading him, aided by a stiff arm hold-off, to gain the required yards.
