Deebo Samuel goes on another bruising run and he's hunted down and tackled by a gang of Packers - result in him staying on the ground and looking like he's hurt.

The 49ers look on anxiously.

Darnell Savage had a pick six for Green Bay last week and he should have had at least the pick part as Brock Purdy lobbed a pass right down his throat.

He should really have caught that one but it's dropped on a wet night in northern California and Purdy gets away with one.

Brock Purdy is on the field and the second play is a quick throw flat to Deebo Samuel on the screen and we all know what the versatile playmaker can do in the flat with the ball in his hand...

He gets 15 yards to get the Niners rolling.

Given their star-studded roster, the San Francisco 49ers came into the season as one of the favourites to win the Super Bowl.

Having impressed after being thrust into the starting quarterback's role late last season, Brock Purdy showed he was no flash in the pan. He continued to look calm and collected under centre as the 49ers won their first five games.

His critics were vocal again during a run of three straight defeats in October, saying there's a reason Purdy was picked last in the draft.

But he and the 49ers regrouped to finish the regular season with a 12-5 record - their only other defeats coming against Baltimore and when they rested many of their starters for their season finale against the Los Angeles Rams.

He may be 'Mr Irrelevant' but Brock Purdy had the top mark for a quarterback during the NFL season.

Jason Bell, former NFL cornerback, on Sky Sports: “Aaron Jones is the hot hand right now so feed him the rock. He’s finding great running lanes.”

Anders Carlson slots a comfortable 29-yard field goal, even if conditions aren't the best, and the Packers get on the board first.

Solid opening drive from Green Bay but they just come up short when it really matters, in the end zone, so they'll have to attempt a field goal...

Jordan Love goes deep on third down and although he doesn't find his receiver a flag is thrown for pass interference so the Packers get a fresh set of downs 13 yards out.

Tight end Luke Musgrave takes in a short pass that's enough to get Green Bay a first down early on in this one - with Jordan Love showing some nice poise and patience in the pocket.

And we're off in Santa Clara with the Packers having the ball first.

"We’re going to play 49ers football, don’t turn the ball over, play well on defence and get the ball into Christian McCaffrey in space."

All eyes were on Jordan Love as he replaced Aaron Rodgers for his first full season, and despite a 3-6 start he's led Green Bay to the play-offs at his first attempt, something neither Rodgers nor Brett Favre could manage.

He's been doing it with a talented but very young group of rookie and second-year receivers - the Packers have the youngest roster in the league this season - and they had no fear for last week's trip to face the Dallas Cowboys, the second seed in the NFC Conference.

Love shone again as Green Bay stunned Dallas, inflicting their first home defeat for almost two years. The 25-year-old has thrown 21 touchdowns and just one interception over the last nine games and aims to lead another upset in California.

Brock Purdy has come in for some criticism in the build-up this week, with some believing he's not as good the other QBs left in the play-offs - all of them being first-round picks.

Former Raiders chief executive Amy Trask caused the biggest stir with her comments on her 'What The Football' podcast.

"Four games this weekend. Eight quarterbacks. Seven terrific quarterbacks, and Brock Purdy. Now Brock Purdy is a good quarterback, make no mistake about it, be calm 49ers fans.

"I'm not suggesting Brock's not a good quarterback. He is. I simply don't put him in the same category as the other quarterbacks."
