    Asked whether his 8.41m jump will silence those who claimed his Olympic gold was a fluke, Rutherford replies: "Probably not." 

    He adds: "I think 8.41m is a stadium record. It wasn't as long as the last jump which won the World Championships but I couldn't' care less to be honest. I could have jumped further."

    Is it too late to mention who won long jump silver and bronze? Possibly, but hey - Australia's Fabrice Lapierre was second behind Rutherford with a 8.24m leap. There was also bronze to sate the Chinese, with Jianana Wang jumping 8.18m.

    Phil Jones has done it again - he's made a British athlete cry. Rutherford is unable to finish his sentence when the tears start to flow. It was talking about the sand pit in his garden which did it. "Hopefully 8.41m will be long enough for people," says Rutherford when he regains his composure.
