  2. Gold for Rudisha?published at 13:52

It was one of the iconic images of London 2012 - David Rudisha taking on the best in the world and breaking the world record to win Olympic gold.

The Kenyan has not been quite the same athlete since that memorable London night, mainly because of injuries, but he was impressive in his semi-final.

Significantly perhaps, the Kenyan's main rival Nijel Amos, the Commonwealth champion, failed to qualify for the final.

The men's 800m final will get under way at 13:55 BST.

Greg Rutherford, after recording a season's best and the second best leap of his career, decides to pass on his fifth attempt, conserving the energy for the sixth jump.

Australia's Fabrice Lapierre is his closest challenger with a 8.20m jump. It feels like history is making a place for Rutherford.

Hassan should have been closer to Dibaba right from the beginning. I just think she lacked the belief that she could challenge Dibaba
