Quote Message"Greg Rutherford is in great form, he's determined to win and I think he can produce a bigger performance in these conditions."

Quote MessageFingers crossed for Greg. He's done a good job so far - his main rivals are struggling.
Greg Rutherford, the leader, goes for a third time. He can relax a little knowing he's set the standard, but perhaps he's a bit too relaxed as his foot plants on the Plasticine.
Should Rutherford's 8.29m effort win gold, it'd be the shortest-winning leap to secure gold at a World Championships. There are three more opportunities for Rutherford, and others, to go further, of course.
The first gold medal of the day is awarded to Cuba's Denia Caballer, the world's number one, who threw 69.28m to beat the best of the rest.
Silver will go to Croatia's Sandra Perkovic (67.39), with the bronze won by Germany's Nadine Muller (65.53).
Mark Leawood: Nice jump from Rutherford to put a marker down for the rest & a good run from Hughes in the 200M.
Simon Smith: Henderson this is gonna be tight for the cut off. Keep it together Greg.

Quote MessageDanny knew if he wasn't in one of the automatic qualifying positions he might have struggled to reach the next round.
Quote MessageYou have to take one race at a time. I wanted to focus on myself to try to get through. I train all year to get to compete on this stage. I can’t wait for tomorrow.
Great Britain's Danny Talbot, Finished third in his 200m heat
Danny Talbot is through to the 200m semi-finals, finishing third in his heat in 20.35. One more 200m heat to go...
Jeff Henderson with another foul! Blimey. The American has recorded a 7.95m effort but that might not be enough with only the top eight surviving the cut. He's currently in sixth position overall after his third jump.
Tom Fordyce
Chief sports writer in Beijing
"While tonight's action here in Beijing for British supporters is dominated by Manchester United fan Greg Rutherford's attempt to add the world long jump title to his Olympic, European and Commonwealth golds, there is another United connection in another big field who could end up on the podium.
"Kenya's 800m man Ferguson Cheruiyot changed his first name from Simon, aged 12, in tribute to the legendary United manager. "They cannot stop winning, and that is why I chose to be known as Ferguson," he says. United fans may wish to take note that no athlete in these championships has yet changed their name to Moyes."
Quote MessageI think I came off too lazy on to the curve. Other than that it was a great race. I came off well from the curve. It was difficult on the tight lane because I’m tall. To be here I feel blessed.
Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes speaking to BBC Sport, Winner of his 200m heat
Quote Message"That is a really important moment for Greg. He's put himself in medal contention with that jump. He knew he had to put them under pressure and he's done that. He's in the lead but can he go further or will Jeff Henderson respond?"
Four-time world champion Dwight Phillips on Radio 5 live
The attention turns to Jeff Henderson, the world's numero uno this year in the long jump. Can the American better Greg Rutherford's second jump? Nope. Up goes the red flag. One more chance for the favourite. He could be in trouble
Michael Johnson
400m world record holder on BBC TV
Quote MessageThis was textbook bend running. He slingshots himself off the bend. He has put himself in a great position in the semi-final. He'll have a good lane.
Colin Jackson

Quote MessageOne thing about Zharnel is that he's used to winning ways. He's coming here in good form and you can see that.
On the track, it's a chance to see British 200m champion Zharnel Hughes running from lane one. He's with the pack down the home straight and comes through in the last 30m, dipping ahead of South Africa's Julian Forte in 20.13. Third was Canada's Brendon Rodney (20.18).
Steve Backley
Four-time European javelin champion on BBC TV
Quote MessageRutherford has produced something very good. It's a decent jump in this second round.
Greg Rutherford to go again in the long jump. Eyebrows furrowed. He needs a white flag on this second attempt to ease the pressure. Will he deliver? Yes! And the Briton leaps 8.29m to go into the lead
Quote MessageThe 200m means a lot more to me but I'm a little worried about my fitness because I've not done many this year, but I think I am a better technical runner in this event. I am tired and a little sore but I'm going to take another ice bath and I'll be OK."
