Summary

  1. Postpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 22 June

    Leicestershire v Glamorgan 75-0

Zain ul Hassan and Asa Tribe are still going strong at Leicester.

Tribe has impressed in the Blast this season, the bespectacled right-hander has 42* off 59 balls whilst his left-handed opener has 30* off 63 balls.

Leic have already turned back to their talismanic opener Chris Wright for a second spell.

Rain stops play at Edgbastonpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 22 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 71-0 after 16.5 overs

Gallingly after the stunning week of heatwave we have just experienced with people moaning about it being too sweaty and warm, the first day of the top league of cricket in the country returning sees us have rain delays at now two international venues.

Grey cloud looming, not heavy rain but enough to go off, I guess Warwickshire will be happy for the break, at least the rain could slow the outfield a little and make the Somerset batters have to get mentally prepared to start again when the rain relents.

  3. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 22 June

    Worcs 43-1 v Surrey

The Worcestershire skipper Jake Libby has got himself to 21 and he will feel he has had to work really hard for those runs - including the six where he was dropped over the boundary.

Surrey are going through their seam-bowling options and don't forget they've got New Zealander Mitchell Santner to bowl some spin later...

    Notts 34-0 v Yorks

Haseeb Hameed batting for NottinghamshireImage source, Rex Features

Nottinghamshire openers Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater continue to slowly tick away on the opening day at Trent Bridge.

Hameed has 23, with Slater on 11.

Yorkshire skipper Jonny Bairstow has brought the left-arm spin of Dan Moriarty into the attack, but to little effect thus far.

  5. Postpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 22 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 69-0

Josh Davey has reverse swept Bethell, all these shots from a recent number 10 in the first hour of a four day game!

Three fielders on the boundary now for a first change bowler in overcast conditions with a red ball.

But because it is a kookaburra ball the batters are hitting it where they like and the fielding side already look dejected with no answer for this easy batting

  6. 'We'll have to wait for Archer'published at 12:06 British Summer Time 22 June

Jofra Archer will have to wait a little while longer to make his return for Sussex with his side batting.

But he has just finished a net session with England bowler Mark Wood so hopefully they'll both be back in the international fold soon.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 22 June

    Jaydn Denly c Stanley b Green 34 (Lancashire v Kent 55-1)

    Breakthrough for Lancashire at Blackpool.

Just moments after Jaydn Denly hit Chris Green for six he tries to repeat the trick but doesn't get enough on it and Mitch Stanley takes a good catch diving forward at full stretch.

James Anderson's decision to introduce some spin pays off...

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 22 June

    Cox c Fuller b Jack 0 (Essex 44-3 v Hants)

Jordan Cox goes without scoring and Hampshire are well on top at Chelmsford.

Eddie Jack extracts some bounce from back of a length and Cox can only fend it straight up in the air.

James Fuller takes a simple catch - it's Jack's first first-class wicket for his county.

  9. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 22 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 62-0

International bowler Jacob Bethell is getting absolutely no respect from Josh Davey or Tom Kohler-Cadmore, both regularly sweeping almost regardless of line, just on the length, backing themselves to not miss it on a flat pitch.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby comes off after a decent but unfruitful spell of 6-1-20-0, Che Simmons to bowl from the City End.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 22 June

    Gloucs 35-0 v Derbyshire

We have our first interruption of the day.

The players are forced off by the rain at Bristol, with Cameron Bancroft (24no) having helped the hosts along nicely thus far.

Both of these sides are very much in the Division Two promotion mix, remember.

    Leicestershire v Glamorgan 52-0

Logan van Beek bowling for LeicestershireImage source, Rex Features

No breakthrough as yet in batter-friendly conditions at Grace Road.

Unlike Warwickshire turning to spin after 11 overs, Leicestershire have tried four seamers before the first hour of the match is up.

Logan van Beek, Tom Scrivens and Somerset loanee Ben Green are all going at over four an over whilst Chris Wright's first four overs went for just 12.

  12. Postpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 22 June

    Worcs 27-1 v Surrey

Sam Curran has replaced Nathan Smith after his opening spell of 0-20 from six overs.

Matt Fisher's opening six overs returned figures of 1-7 with three maidens and Tom Lawes takes over from him.

Surrey just flexing their bowling muscles as they search for a second breakthrough.

  13. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 22 June

    Lancashire v Kent 55-0

Jaydn Denly brings up Kent's half-century by sweep-slogging Chris Green for six.

A test of James Anderson's fledgling captaincy, this first hour at Blackpool...

  14. Postpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 22 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 53-0

Well, that first trial of spin over on this pitch did not work either.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore hits the first ball for three, then Jacob Bethell is smashed down the ground for six by Josh Davey alongside another loose leg side delivery easily taken for four.

So, 13 off it, and Davey not TKC with the first six of this match.

This already has the feel of a first innings chase for 450 in 110 overs then see where we are at on day three and four if either side can push for a non-draw...

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 22 June

    Elgar b Fuller 16 (Essex 39-2 v Hants)

    Bowled 'im.

James Fuller gets one through the defences of Dean Elgar and both Essex openers are back in the pavilion.

Having won the toss and opted to bat in glorious conditions, it's not been the best start for the hosts.

  16. Postpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 22 June

    Durham v Sussex 22-1

Ben Raine and wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson think they have got Daniel Hughes.

The Sussex batsman goes on the pull and Raine and Robinson think there's a touch on the way through but umpire Peter Hartley signals he didn't hear anything - Hughes remains at the crease.

  17. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 22 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 36-0

Jacob Bethell is going to bowl the 11th over of the day!

Not Ed Barnard, not Che Simmons, no the part-time spinner.

That says it all about this kookaburra ball and Alex Davies and Warwickshire's thoughts on it.

  18. Division Two updatepublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 22 June

You can usually guarantee at least one batting collapse during these opening days... and Middlesex are obliging.

Liam Guthrie has now taken 3-13 for Northants, reducing the visitors to 33-3 at the County Ground.

  19. Postpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 22 June

    Notts 23-0 v Yorks

Jonny Bairstow continues to attack with four slips as the new Koobaburra ball nips around.

No joy yet though for the Yorkshire captain.

Nottinghamshire openers Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater (below) have been watchful in the first 10 overs, but Hameed has just played two superb drives through the off-side to move to 15.

Roderick lbw Fisher 10 (Worcs 23-1 v Surrey)

    Fisher gets his man.

Matthew Fisher has bowled really well this morning, including three successive maidens.

He gets one to nip back and Gareth Roderick fails to make contact.
