Summary

  1. 'Good batting conditions at Grace Road'published at 13:47 British Summer Time 22 June

    Leicestershire v Glamorgan 105-1

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

A fluent half-century from Asa Tribe was the highlight of the first session at Grace Road as Glamorgan made the most of winning the toss and choosing to bat.

He got the visitors off to a flying start while Zain Ul Hassan began more cautiously before getting his own scoring rate going.

The pair reached 98 before Ul Hassan was caught behind down legside for 36 off Chris Wright.

It’s overcast and breezy in Leicester, but it’s still looking like good batting conditions for the visitors.

A 50 for Daniel Hughes. It has come from 101 balls with eight fours.

Durham still think they had him caught behind earlier in the innings.

As a kid we were allowed to play on the boundary after games. Once Syd joined in and nearly bounced the tennis ball over the pavilion. Great cricketer, great laugh and smile, great fundraiser, great bloke. RIP

  7. Back in Bristolpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 22 June

    Gloucestershire 41-0 v Derbyshire

The rain has relented in Bristol where Gloucestershire are mourning the passing of fast bowler David 'Syd' Lawrence today.

We've had plenty of lovely tributes to Syd from readers of this page throughout the morning so please keep those memories coming.

On the pitch, Glos have moved to 43-0 with Cameron Bancroft 25no and fellow opener Joe Phillips 18no.

Earlier this month, BBC Radio Gloucestershire looked back at David 'Syd' Lawrence's career as he and his ghost writer Dean Wilson launched his autobiography at the WG Grace Memorial Ground, home of Downend Cricket Club in Bristol.

  10. Steady stuff from Somersetpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 22 June

    Warwickshire v Somerset 71-0

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset’s distinctly left field opening partnership of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Josh Davey have so far done their team proud, adding 71 largely untroubled runs before rain dictated an early lunch.

They’ve played sensibly and well, but before Somerset fans get too excited it should be noted that the pitch is flat and the ball a Kookaburra, which has barely swung or seamed.

Shot of the morning? A handsome straight six by Josh Davey off the left arm spin of Jacob Bethell, to put the golden boy of English cricket firmly in his place.

    Northants v Middlesex 130-4

Leus du Plooy has led a Middlesex fightback of sorts at Northampton with a fine 53no off 73 balls.

But they still have work to do to claim some batting points from this one after Liam Guthrie's three-wicket haul left the visitors 33-3 early doors.

It's fifth v sixth with the winner here likely to still harbour promotion hopes and the loser, well less so.

  13. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 22 June

    Worcs 70-3 v Surrey

That was going along nicely for the home side until five minutes before lunch when Jake Libby and Kashif Ali fell in the space of five balls with the score on 70.

Libby and Henry Nicholls had looked untroubled after Gareth Roderick was out for 10 but it all changed in the blink of an eye.

Skipper Libby was bowled by Jordan Clark for 28 before Ali was run out for a duck when slow to react to a call from Nicholls.

Surrey skipper Rory Burns went through all his seam-bowling options before turning to the spin of Will Jacks and they still have Mitchell Santner and Dan Lawrence in reserve.

Those two late wickets have opened the door for the reigning champions.

  14. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 22 June

    Essex 95-3 v Hants

Unlike other parts of the country, it's still cracking the flags at Chelmsford, where Essex have moved on to 95-3 at the end of the first session.

Hampshire started magnificently, with a wicket apiece for Kyle Abbott, eddie Jack and James Fuller, but Essex have rebuilt since that early stumble.

Matt Critchley has 37, while captain Tom Westley has played well for his 27.

  15. Lunch at Blackpoolpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 22 June

    Lancashire v Kent 105-2

An even morning, you feel, between the two clubs occupying the bottom two places in Division Two.

James Anderson, skippering Lancashire for the first time in a competitive game, has seen his side claim the wickets of Jaydn Denly and Daniel Bell-Drummond.

But Ben Compton's typically patient 39no gives Kent reason to be equally pleased.

  16. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 22 June

    Notts 90-0 v Yorks

Haseeb Hameed of Nottinghamshire celebrates a half centuryImage source, Rex Features

It has undoubtedly been Nottinghamshire's day so far, having opted to bat first against Yorkshire.

On a good batting track, Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater started slowly against the new ball before picking up the pace as the shine came off the Kookaburra.

Hameed passed 50 just before the interval, while Slater has 34.

  17. Lunch at the Riversidepublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 22 June

    Durham v Sussex

Sussex recovered from the early loss of Tom Haines with the score on nine.

Tom Clark and Daniel Hughes added 76 for the second wicket before Clark was surprisingly bowled by George Drissell for 30.

Durham also thought they might have had the wicket of Hughes earlier but umpire Peter Hartley intimated he didn't hear the sound that bowler Ben Raine and Ollie Robinson behind the stumps were adamant came from the bat.

    An even opening session.

  18. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 22 June

    Leicestershire v Glamorgan 105-1

No rain in the East Midlands and only one wicket too as batters of course continue to make runs whilst the sun shines down on the kookaburra ball racing to the boundary.

Chris Wright inevitably the man to get the breakthrough, Zain ul Hasan caught by Peter Handscomb off Chris Wright for 36 off 85 balls.

Asa Tribe, the aggressor is still there on 61* and Sam Northeast will have to get himself in twice, either side of this interval, he is 2*.

  19. Postpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 22 June

    Leicestershire v Glamorgan 103-1

Liam Trevaskis to bowl one over of left-arm spin, of course, it is almost obligatory, for the last over before lunch at Grace Road..

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 22 June

Kashif run out 0 (Worcs 70-3 v Surrey)

    Calamity for Worcestershire.

Henry Nicholls drives the ball away and calls Kashif Ali for a single.

Bowler Will Jacks half tipped the ball to mid-off and when Ali is slow to react to the call he is run out.

Lunch is called but the cheese and pickle sandwiches may taste a little sour in the home dressing room after that.
