Summary

  1. Postpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 120-2 v Kent 156

Charlie Stobo has been very good since tea.

The Australian quick has gone back to route one; line and length and hey presto it has halted the runs.

Two maidens in a row from Stobo and for the first time today, the pressure is on Warwickshire.

  2. wicket

WICKET Middleton b Wells 109published at 16:53 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 249-4

There will not be a first-class highest score for Fletcha Middleton.

The Hampshire batter has played beautifully but his innings ends by inside-edging one off Luke Wells onto his stumps.

He falls seven short of his career-best 116, but he has given his side an excellent platform.

  3. 'Middleton showing his maturity'published at 16:50 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 247-3

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

A terrific hundred from Fletcha Middleton, his second of the season. He didn't make one last year. He threatened it, but showing his maturity, now 22, what an innings that's been.

Chanceless and some of those shots off the back foot.

Not only well executed but it shows the good nature of this pitch.

  4. Postpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 290-5 v Middx

With the new ball just five overs away, Middlesex have opted for the part-time leg-spin of Sam Robson.

Robson gets a couple to turn away from Jonny Bairstow, who is now 66 not out and clearly the man Middlesex need to get out if they're to keep the Yorkshire total down.

  5. wicket

WICKET Virdi c Elgar b Snater 42published at 16:49 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 266

Amar Virdi clips Shane Snater around the corner to Dean Elgar at square leg.

A 64-run stand for the last wicket is finally broken, but sadly Virdi can't reach his Championship best (of 47).

Worcestershire all out for 266, a great recovery.

  6. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 29 August

Sussex are continuing to pile on the runs against an increasingly forlorn Derbyshire.

Dan Hughes was eventually out for 144, Tom Haines made 72 and the current duo of Tom Alsop and James Coles have put on almost 50 together.

Northants are only 20 runs behind Gloucestershire's first innings score of 125. They are on 105-2 with Luke Procter and Rob Keogh aiming to put their side into the lead soon.

Leicestershire are eight down for 231 with Glamorgan's wickets being taken by Timm van der Gugten (4-45), Dan Douthwaite (3-42) and one for Fraser Sheat.

  7. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 253-2

Will Jacks and Rory Burns' third-wicket stand is now worth 52 and it is a first batting point for Surrey.

One closer to the aim of retaining the title.

  8. Evening session under way at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 265-9

How long can Tom Taylor and Amar Virdi last?

They have put on 63 so far and have seven more overs to last until the second new ball.

Essex take a new ploy in the new session. Paul Walter gets his first bowl and forces Virdi into a defensive stroke first-up.

  9. Back under way at Edgbastonpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 115-1 v Kent 156

Kent weren't exactly quickly out of their dressing room after tea.

Big session for them to resuscitate their day. A couple of early wickets and who knows, they might get on a roll and back into this match.

Charlie Stobo begins the evening proceedings with some extra bounce that causes a bit of trouble for Will Rhodes and then an lbw shout.

  10. 100 runs

100 for Fletcha Middletonpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 229-3

Fletcha Middleton races through the nineties to reach only his second Championship century.

He strikes Tom Aspinwall for two boundaries through the covers off the back foot and then tucks one legside for the single in the same over.

This century comes off 173 balls with 13 fours and he has gone through the gears nicely as the day has gone on.

His best score is 116, so he will fancy bettering that here.

  11. 300 runs

300 up for Somersetpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 302-5 v Durham

James Rew secures a second batting bonus point for Somerset with a reverse sweep off George Drissell that narrowly eludes the diving fielder at backward point and rolls to the boundary rope.

Archie Vaughan has played some nice shots so far, particularly a cut off Drissell that flew to the fence, but he'll be content to let his more experienced partner take the lead. The pair have now added 42 since tea.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Jonny Bairstowpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 261-5 v Middx

Jonny Bairstow raises his bat as he drives Leus du Plooy off the back foot for two to complete his 50 from 63 balls.

    It's the 70th half-century of Bairstow's first-class career.

Plenty resting on the England batter here as Yorkshire look to build a strong total in excess of 300.

  13. 50 runs

50 partnershippublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 215-3

Ben Brown pulls one out to deep square leg and comes back for two.

That brings up the 50 partnership between him and Fletcha Middleton and is reasserting Hampshire's authority after the quick loss of Nick Gubbins and James Vince in mid-afternoon.

  14. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 235-2

Rory Burns launches a delivery from 19-year-old Freddie McCann for six.

This match feels a little bit like men against boys at the moment.

    Burns has 124.

  15. Postpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 208-3

The shot of the day from Hampshire's Fletcha Middleton.

A glorious straight drive off Tom Aspinwall that is too firm for the mid-off fielder to cut off.

Beautiful stuff as the opener moves to 86.

  16. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 265-9

Essex just can't pick up the final Worcestershire wicket.

Tom Taylor (57) has added 57 with Amar Virdi (40) - that is just nine runs short of the county's highest 10th wicket partnership against Essex.

Earlier, Jamie Porter picked up his 19th First-Class five-for, and Simon Harmer has three - but neither have been able to separate Taylor and Virdi.

  17. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 115-2 v Kent 156

The good news for Kent is that they have dismissed Warwickshire's opening batters, and they are still in the lead.

That's where the good news ends.

Warwickshire bowled them out for 156, and by tea, are already within 42 runs of them.

There has been no control, no pressure and it feels like there is no hope of staving off relegation.

  18. Visitors rue decision to bowl firstpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 29 August

    Sussex 310-3 v Derbyshire

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Another good session for Sussex, although Derbyshire, whose bowling has improved since lunch, will be pleased to have slightly stemmed the flow of runs.

The opening partnership of 196 between Daniel Hughes and Tom Haines came in just 36 overs, before Haines was well caught low down by Wayne Madsen

Earlier Madsen who is normally so reliable in the slips, spilled a difficult chance when Hughes was on 35, and that proved an expensive drop as Hughes was eventually out for 144 an innings that included 18 fours and three sixes.

Tom Clark made a more sedate 37 before playing a loose shot to be caught in the slips again by Madsen.

This looks a good pitch, and Derbyshire will be rueing their decision to bowl first, whilst Sussex will have their eyes on maximum batting bonus points possibly by the close tonight.

  19. wicket

WICKET: Tattersall c Higgins b du Plooy 26published at 16:13 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 242-5 v Middx

Good start to the evening session for Middlesex as Leus du Plooy collects a wicket in the first over!

Jonny Tattersall mistimes a sweep against the left-arm spinner and the ball loops up off his glove and over the wicketkeeper, with Ryan Higgins alert to dash across from slip and complete the catch.

George Hill is the new man in for Yorkshire.

  20. Postpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 215-2

The camera cuts to the midwicket area and the sight of Luke Fletcher sat sprawling on the covers beyond the rope.

The burly paceman is not included in the Notts team for this one, and he takes a moment to rest.

We'll resist any comments about the covers heaving under the weight...
