Summary

  1. Vaughan off the mark for Somersetpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 262-5 v Durham

Archie Vaughan has begun his first innings in County Championship cricket immediately after tea, with Tom Banton falling to the final ball of the afternoon session.

Vaughan tickles his second ball from Callum Parkinson around the corner for a couple and now it's down to him and fellow youngster James Rew to build on the start that Banton and Tom Abell have given them.

  2. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 212-2

We are racing through the day at Trent Bridge and the players are back on for the final session.

A second over after tea and Will Jacks wastes no time in launching Liam Patterson-White back towards the pavilion.

Jacks is not going to block his way through these two hours.

    Essex v Worcs 250-9

When Worcestershire were 10-3 this morning, batting points were nowhere near the agenda.

But through the hard work of Brett D'Oliveira, Ethan Brookes, Tom Taylor and Amar Virdi they've reached 250.

    That means a batting point!

  4. wicket

WICKET Yates c Finch b Garrett 40published at 16:01 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 96-2 v Kent 156

George Garrett holds one outside off stump and Rob Yates almost apologetically leaves his bat dangled.

Harry Finch completes the catch, although celebrations were muted at best.

Warwickshire only trail by 60 now, and a big first-innings lead will still be expected.

It's 4pm but a fair few games are still not at tea. Here's a quick look at how things stand around the grounds -

    Division One

    • Somerset 260-5 v Durham
    • Warks 90-1 v Kent 156 - in play
    • Essex v Worcs 244-9 - in play

  6. Postpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 244-9

Essex are taking the extra half an hour, but all that is doing is allowing Amar Virdi to keep his momentum.

Virdi is usually seen as the most No.11, No.11 in the Championship but he has given in a good whack in his 25 - although the stats show he's only scored off six of the balls he's faced.

He's hit Simon Harmer for two sixes...there are top-order batters who would have dreamed of being able to strike one over the years.

The partnership with Tom Taylor is worth 37.

  7. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 203-3

A fine shot from Fletcha Middleton as he rides a shorter ball from Tom Aspinwall and thumps it off the back foot through the covers.

That moves him into the eighties. He adds another single and then Be Brown runs one down to a vacant third man for four to end the session and bring up the 200.

Hampshire dominated it with 123 runs added for all bar wickets in successive overs, but that's cricket.

Will they push on after tea or can Lancashire claw their way further back into the contest?

  8. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 87-1 v Kent 156

Kent have been able to build absolutely zero pressure on the Warwickshire batters.

Rob Yates and Will Rhodes have scored at over five runs an over and looked in very little trouble.

Other than Grant Stewart, the bowling figures are very unflattering.

  9. Tea at Headingleypublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 240-4 v Middx

A very similar session to the first of the game, with Yorkshire posting approximately 120 runs and losing two wickets when both batters had looked well set.

Ominously, though, Jonny Bairstow and Jonny Tattersall are progressing well and their partnership passed 50 in the final over before tea.

Bairstow is 38 not out, with Tattersall on 25.

  10. Postpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 194-3

Hampshire wicketkeeper Ben Brown has been a busy man since coming to the crease, taking a lot of the strike.

He is on 19 and Fletcha Middleton has 76 as they try to build a partnership.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Tom Taylorpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 226-9

Tom Taylor cuts to the boundary rider and that is his half-century.

An important hand after the top order collapse.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Banton c Borthwick b Parkinson 73published at 15:43 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 260-5 v Durham

Two in two overs for Callum Parkinson and suddenly Durham are in business!

It's the final over before tea - and that will be the final ball of the session as Tom Banton edges the spinner low to first slip.

After that big partnership of 182 between Abell and Banton, both are back in the pavilion and Durham tails will be up as they head in for a cuppa.

  13. Tea at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 203-2

Tea will taste a little bit sweeter for Notts after that wicket for Farhan Ahmed, but overall it is Surrey's session.

Rory Burns continues on 107 not out and with Will Jacks now alongside him and the likes of Ben Foakes and the all-rounders to come, they are in a very good position for a big score.

  14. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 223-9

The attendance at Chelmsford today has been announced as 2,041.

It has looked busy, particularly at lunch when many children got onto the outfield and played a few casual games in the sun.

The Essex portion of that number will be largely happy with their team's efforts today....maybe less so with Amar Virdi getting away with a few hacks (and to be fair a clean six).

  15. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 227-4 v Middx

The batting side are starting to pick up the pace again now as Jonny Tattersall takes successive boundaries off Ryan Higgins.

Then Jonny Bairstow gets in on the act, walloping Henry Brookes over midwicket for six and the pair have now added 42 since the dismissal of Will Luxton.

  16. wicket

WICKET Patel c Verreynne b Ahmed 77published at 15:38 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 201-2

    A wicket for the 16-year-old!

Farhan Ahmed strikes in his 19th over as he gets a faint tickle from Ryan Patel to break this partnership.

Patel goes after putting on 175 with Rory Burns.

A sweet moment for Ahmed, a maiden first-class wicket for Notts and also a first dismissal in Notts colours for South Africa wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

  17. wicket

WICKET: Abell c Borthwick b Parkinson 124published at 15:38 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 253-4 v Durham

Relief all round in the Durham camp as Callum Parkinson finally makes that breakthrough!

The spinner find a bit of turn outside Tom Abell's off stump and he nudges the ball tamely into the hands of slip.

What a platform Abell's century has provided for Somerset, though, as James Rew comes out to join Tom Banton.

  18. 200 runs

200 up for Surreypublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 200-1

Rory Burns cuts one away from Liam Patterson-White and that is enough to clock up the Surrey 200.

These batters look set for bed and breakfast the way things are going.

  19. wicket

WICKET Davies lbw Ogborne 37published at 15:29 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 62-1 v Kent 156

    A breakthrough for Kent!

Somerset loanee Alfie Ogborne is the man to make it as he keeps one low to Alex Davies.

Davies' wait to get to 1,000 Championship runs this season will have to wait a bit longer. He currently sits on 966 runs.

  20. Postpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 243-3 v Durham

Five overs left until tea and it's probably fair to say Durham are desperate for a wicket.

They've tried six bowlers so far and it wouldn't be too surprising to see them turn to a seventh. Maybe skipper and ex-Test spinner Scott Borthwick might be tempted to have a dabble?

For now, it's all going swimmingly for Somerset, fast approaching their first batting bonus point with Tom Abell 118 not out and Tom Banton 66.
