Summary

  1. wicket

WICKET Leach lbw Harmer 5published at 15:25 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 202-9

Three for wickets Simon Harmer after lunch, and maximum bowling points for Essex.

Joe Leach walks across his stumps, attempts a paddle sweep, misses it, gets hit on the pad and sees the finger go up.

Amar Virdi is the last man in for Worcestershire.

  2. 100 runs

    Notts v Surrey 194-1

It's a rather ugly under-edge off Lyndon James, but Rory Burns won't care too much as he gets the boundary he needs to reach his 100.

The Surrey captain has faced 169 balls and hit eight fours and two sixes.

He hit a career-best 227 last week and has a hundred this. He also celebrated his 34th birthday on Monday.

How could his week be any better? I wonder if he's an Oasis fan as well!

  3. 50 runs

50 partnership between Yates and Daviespublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 50-0 v Kent 156

Rob Yates defends, Alex Davies attacks. It has been the Warwickshire opening partnership's mantra for most of this season.

    It works.

Davies has been particularly strong through the leg side in this innings. He's eased to 29 from 31 balls.

Kent's bad day is getting worse.

  4. wicket

WICKET D'Oliveira lbw Harmer 68published at 15:15 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 192-8

Brett D'Oliveira's excellent rearguard is over.

Who else but Simon Harmer to end it? The off-spinner beats the bat with the turn and the ball would have at least clipped the leg stump.

D'Oliveira goes for 68, having been a big part of 72 and 59 run stands with Ethan Brookes and Tom Taylor.

  5. wicket

WICKET Vince c Bohannon b Hartley 5published at 15:15 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 165-3

That is a delightful gift for the Red Rose!

Hampshire captain James Vince comes and goes in a hurry.

He hit his first ball for four off Luke Wells but when he comes down the pitch to Tom Hartley, he hits it high and nowhere with Josh Bohannon able to jog round and take the catch barely 10 yards from the batter.

A first bowling point for Lancashire and a different feel about the game to 10 minutes ago.

  6. 150 runs

150 partnershippublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 176-1

Rory Burns edges/steers one down towards deep third and the couple of runs takes the partnership to 150.

He and Ryan Patel are driving Notts into the ground this afternoon at Trent Bridge.

  7. Postpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 191-4 v Middx

So nearly a fourth wicket for Luke Hollman - and it would have been a big one.

Jonny Bairstow, on 12, is undone by the spin, but the edge strikes the pad of wicketkeeper Jack Davies and Ryan Higgins, scrambling to his right at slip, can't quite adjust in time.

Will Bairstow capitalise on that close call?

  8. wicket

WICKET Gubbins c Hurst b Wells 75published at 15:08 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 158-2

Can we call this the text commentator's curse?

Hampshire, and Nick Gubbins in particular, had been looking untroubled, but the number three goes back to Luke Wells and nicks it through to the wicketkeeper.

He is frustrated as he goes off because he was looking good value for three figures.

A welcome wicket for Lancashire, but it does bring James Vince to the crease.

  9. 6 runs

Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 144-7

Brett D'Oliveira has had enough of Matt Critchley and launches him towards the River Can.

That's the first real moment of aggression from D'Oliveira, although there wasn't a great deal of jeopardy to the shot.

The Worcestershire captain is up to 65 now.

  10. wicket

WICKET: Luxton c Robson v Hollman 31published at 15:02 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 185-4 v Middx

Luke Hollman's had a magnificent summer in all formats for Middlesex - and the leg-spinner grabs his third wicket of the day.

Will Luxton attempts to pull Hollman from outside off stump and spears the ball into the hands of midwicket.

Yorkshire now have two wicketkeeping Jonnys at the crease, with Tattersall walking out to join Bairstow.

  11. 150 runs

150 partnershippublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 157-1

Nick Gubbins is just about able to get his bat on a wide delivery outside off from Luke Wells.

The single clocks up the 150 partnership for this second wicket between him and Fletcha Middleton.

It doesn't look like ending anytime soon.

  12. Postpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 169-7

Brett D'Oliveira has found good company with Tom Taylor.

The duo have put on 36, and looked in little trouble since lunch.

Taylor was just wrapped on the pads by Sam Cook. The bowler was convinced, no one else was. It was very high.

  13. 100 runs

100 for Tom Abellpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 214-3 v Durham

Applause around Taunton as Tom Abell posts his third century of the summer and the 17th of his first-class career.

The stroke that got Abell there wasn't all that pretty, a leg-side hoik for one off Bas de Leede, but that shouldn't detract from an excellent knock by the Somerset batter.

  14. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 154-1

A lovely stroke through the covers from Nick Gubbins brings him four runs off Tom Hartley.

He is certainly winning the battle against the left-arm spinner at the moment.

Gubbins then sweeps for a single to move to 72.

  15. 'Steel will be a handful'published at 14:55 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 157-1

    Kevin Howells
BBC Test Match Special commentator on BBC Sounds

The leading wicket taker after the first few rounds of the Championship (with the Kookaburra ball)? One Cam Steel.

He has been drafted back into the Surrey team and it's going to be a bit of a handful later in this game.

In the two Kookaburra games in April, Steel took 14 wickets in three innings.

  16. Postpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 8-0 v Kent 156

A huge lbw shout from the Kent slip cordon against Alex Davies.

Charlie Stobo nipped one back and it did hit Davies on the back pad. But you feel it was probably going just over the stumps.

That would have been the start Kent needed.

  17. 50 runs

50 for Ryan Patelpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 147-1

No Ollie Pope. No Dan Lawrence. No Jamie Smith.

They are big gaps to fill in the Surrey batting line-up, so step forward Ryan Patel.

He makes it to 50 off 133 balls and he and Rory Burns are setting this Surrey innings up very nicely.

  18. Kookaburra doldrums hit Tauntonpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 200-3 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

I have to say my heart sank when I realised this morning they were using Kookaburra balls for these next two rounds of matches.

I didn't get sucked in when three wickets fell in the morning session, nor when one of them fell first ball of the match.

No, I've seen too much this season to know this ball sucks the joy out of cricket, unless you are batting.

It all looks extremely straightforward for Tom Abell and Tom Banton now. They've put on 132 runs in 193 balls. Abell has 88 and Banton 55.

It also looks like a long afternoon in the Taunton sun for the Durham bowlers and only 48 overs of the game have gone so far.

  19. 200 runs

200 up for Somersetpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 200-3 v Durham

Somerset look very much on top this afternoon, with Tom Abell and Tom Banton scoring freely and they've just taken the total to 200.

Banton's drive for two off Bas de Leede brought up that landmark and he's on 55 now, while Abell is just 12 short of his third Championship hundred of the season.

  20. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 131-1

Glorious stroke from Nick Gubbins as he uses his feet to Tom Hartley and hits him over long-on for six.

It's the first of the match and underlines how in control Hampshire are, especially since lunch.
