Summary

  1. Back under way at Edgbastonpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks 0-0 v Kent 156

Grant Stewart swings one back to Rob Yates, who defends comfortably - and that is Warwickshire's first innings under way.

The one thing Kent can cling onto after their innings...

You don't know how good an innings is until both teams have had a bat.

  2. Division Two updatepublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 29 August

Timm van der GugtenImage source, Rex Features

Glamorgan's Timm van der Gugten has taken all four of his side's wickets against Leicestershire who have 148 runs on the board.

Derbyshire finally have a wicket against an attacking Sussex. Tom Haines went to Zak Chappell for 72 but the hosts are still running away with it on 221-1, with Dan Hughes unbeaten on 129.

Prithvi Shaw and Ricardo Vasconcelos have started Northants' reply to Gloucestershire's 125 all out.

  3. 'Fearful for Notts'published at 14:41 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 146-1

    Kevin Howells
BBC Test Match Special commentator on BBC Sounds

I'm a bit fearful here for Notts.

  4. wicket

WICKET: Wharton c Higgins b Hollman 40published at 14:38 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 171-3 v Middx

And sure enough, Middlesex have their wicket!

It's a second for Luke Hollman, who tempts James Wharton to try and cut him and Ryan Higgins snaps up the catch at slip.

That brings Jonny Bairstow to the middle.

  5. 50 runs

for Brett D'Oliveirapublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 144-7

    A true captain's innings from Brett D'Oliveira.

It comes in 107 balls and has been crucial to Worcestershire avoiding an embarrassingly low score.

D'Oliveira allowed Ethan Brookes to make the shots, but he's grafted hard and survived. A deserved bat raise.

  6. Postpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 170-2 v Middx

Middlesex captain Toby Roland-Jones has brought himself back into the attack to try and stem the flow of runs, with some initial success.

The scoring rate has subsided after that clutch of boundaries off Luke Hollman, although Middlesex could certainly do with another wicket.

James Wharton has 39 and Will Luxton is 29 not out. Some fellow named Bairstow is due to come in next...

  7. wicket

KENT ALL OUT FOR 156published at 14:34 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks v Kent 156

    And that's that for Kent.

Ben Compton, who has been the only batter to come out of this with any credit with his 70, swings away in front of square but only picks out Will Rhodes.

Chris Rushworth finishes up with 3-43. New ball bowler Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Michael Booth also got three.

Other than Compton, only Joey Evison reached doubled figures. Their third top score was "Extras" with 12.

That innings had the feeling of a team which knows they are heading to Division Two.

  8. Postpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 144-7

There must either have been delays on the M25 (or M11 depending on which way you go) or on the railways.

Why? Because Jordan Cox has only just arrived at Chelmsford from Lord's.

Cox was released by England, having not been needed for the Second Test against Sri Lanka, this morning.

He was given a very warm welcome from the Essex faithful as he ran out a few moments ago.

  9. Postpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks v Kent 151-9

The end is (probably) nigh for Kent.

So Ben Compton is trying his best to give his bowlers something to bowl at.

Two cover drives to the ropes in a row takes him to 70.

  10. 100 runs

100 partnershippublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 127-1

A century stand for this second wicket between Rory Burns and Ryan Patel.

It has been a case of quiet accumulation rather than blistering scoring with the run rate at 2.68, but Notts will be starting to feel the pressure.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Fletcha Middletonpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 114-1

And now Fletcha Middleton does have his half-century, taking an easy single into the legside off Shreyas Iyer.

    Middleton's half-century is from 96 balls with five fours - a real opener's effort.

Can he go onto a century for the second time this season?

Trusting Mind: Still, being an England men’s team supporter is a way more positive experience than being a Kent men’s team supporter. #bbccricket, external

Not sure there is any comparison this summer! England have won four Tests out of four, Kent have lost five in a row!

  13. 100 runs

100 partnershippublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 110-1

A bit full and on the pads from George Balderson and that is beautifully put away by Fletcha Middleton for four runs.

The stand between him and Nick Gubbins is now worth 103 and he is one shy of 50.

  14. 50 runs

for Tom Bantonpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 29 August

    Somerset 175-3 v Durham

Now Tom Banton follows his partner to 50, slashing Daniel Hogg for four to third man and turning the next delivery for a single.

Banton and Tom Abell have now added 107 for this fourth wicket and they're motoring along briskly as Durham shuffle their pack in search of a breakthrough.

  15. wicket

    WICKET Ogborne c Yates b Hannon-Dalby 7published at 14:20 British Summer Time 29 August

    Warks v Kent 146-9

Alfie Ogborne is squared and becomes the ninth wicket to fall.

Simply a straight ball, that maybe nibbled in a bit, from Oliver Hannon-Dalby, and Rob Yates holds on at second slip.

Actually that is a good catch for a ball that was dying on him.

  16. wicket

WICKET van Beek c & b Harmer 6published at 14:20 British Summer Time 29 August

    Essex v Worcs 133-7

Simon Harmer wasn't going to keep quiet for long.

  17. 50 runs

50 partnership for Wharton and Luxtonpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 29 August

    Yorks 155-2 v Middx

Will Luxton has begun to open up against Luke Hollman, smoking the leg-spinner over midwicket for six and he brings up the 50 partnership with another straight drive that falls just short of the rope.

Still, the four is enough to raise the 50 partnership between Luxton and James Wharton as Yorkshire re-establish control in this post-lunch session.

  18. GLOUCESTERSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 125published at 14:15 British Summer Time 29 August

    Glos 125 v Northants

    Well, that didn't take long.

Gloucestershire are all out in 36.1 overs - a pretty disastrous first innings.

Justin Broad did most of the damage with the ball, taking 7-33 from 15.1 overs.

A rare bright spot for the hosts was Ollie Price's half-century, with Graeme van Buuren (40) the only other batter to reach double figures.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Nick Gubbinspublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 29 August

    Lancashire v Hampshire 101-1

A good push-drive from Nick Gubbins gets the batter two runs and pushes the Hampshire total into three figures.

It also takes Gubbins to 50. He has faced 122 balls and hit seven fours and it is his half-century of the season.

He is putting his side into a very good position after they were asked to bat first.

  20. 'No element of control for Notts'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 29 August

    Notts v Surrey 116-1

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

There has not been any great element of control for Notts in that half-hour in the lead-up to lunch and since lunch.

It has seemed a little easy. The bowlers are almost waiting for mistake.
