Title rivals and McLaren team-mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri came to blows for the first time as the Briton appeared to misjudge a passing attempt in the Canadian Grand Prix.

Norris hit the back of Piastri's car on the pit straight with four laps to go as George Russell took Mercedes' first victory of the season with a controlled drive.

Norris, who had been attempting to pass Piastri for fourth place, told his team it was "all my bad" and that it was "stupid of me".

Norris' car retired on the spot with front suspension damage and the race finished under the safety car with Piastri in fourth place behind Russell, Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli.

Piastri's championship lead over Norris increased to 22 points, with Verstappen 21 adrift of the Briton.

The weekend belongs to race winner George Russell, Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes but the hot topic of conversation will be Lando Norris' move on team-mate Oscar Piastri.

There's no bad blood between the two after their late contact but Norris has now lost ground on Piastri in the drivers' championship. The Briton will have to regroup for the tough run of grands prix coming up when we head back to Europe next.

So, where are we going after Montreal? It's the Red Bull Ring and the Austraian Grand Prix from 27-29 June. That gives Norris a bit of time before the battle on track begins again.

Thanks for joining us and sending in your F1 dad messages, folks. Come back again on Friday, 27 June for first practice in Spielberg at 12:30 BST.

See you in two weeks' time!

  3. 'Things need to change in order for us to compete at the front' - Hamiltonpublished at 21:48 British Summer Time 15 June

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who finished in P6: "It was feeling pretty decent up until then, I got a good start, I held position and I was holding onto the group, I was managing the tyres well so I was feeling optimistic.

"I didn't see it happen but I heard I hit a groundhog, that's devasting because I love animals and I'm so sad about it, it's horrible.

"That's never happened to me before here but the floor basically the right-side there was a hole in it. Given that and we had a brake issue halfway through as well and then we probably stayed out too long in the first stop and came out behind traffic and went from one thing to another.

"I'm grateful that I finished particularly with the brake issue I had. We are really in need of an upgrade and there are a lot of things that need to change in order for us to compete at the front."

  4. 'We never want to see the two McLarens touching'published at 21:43 British Summer Time 15 June

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella on the incident between his two drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri: "We never want to see a McLaren involved in an accident and definitely we never want to see the two McLarens touching each other.

"It is something definitely that we need to review, because this is a very clear principle, at the same time it is a contact that happened because of a misjudgement. Lando misjudged the distance to the car ahead, of course there was no malintent, I have to say.

"Lando owned it immediately, took responsibility for that, which we appreciate. But certainly something to discuss and review. The principles are already in place, I think our drivers will learn and we go racing again.

"It is a misjudgement which cost Lando quite a lot in the Championship. it was about to cost many more points for the team already costed for the team so definitely an incident that should have not happened.

"I think the messages didn't have any particular bias for the fact the car ahead was a team-mate it would have been the same for any car."

Oh dear. After giving his congratulations to former team-mate George Russell, Lewis Hamilton confirms to Sky Sports he hit a groundhog during the race and that's what caused the damage to his Ferrari. The seven-time world champion is devastated, adding: "I love animals. I'm so sad about it."

Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, is downbeat following his Canada performance. He says he thought the one-stop strategy would be better for him and he was confident it was the way to go. But a two stop was chosen by his pit wall and while he tried his best, P5 today was the best he could do.

  6. Mercedes back up to P2published at 21:37 British Summer Time 15 June

The winners in Canada, on and off track, are Mercedes, who jump back above Ferrari and up to second in the constructors' championship with that double podium. McLaren, despite a driver DNF this weekend, are still way out in front, holding a 175-point advantage after 10 races.

    2. Mercedes - 199

    3. Ferrari - 183

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella is next to face the questions, telling Sky Sports the team will need to review incident, as 'papaya rules' state the pair can race, but just don't make contact.

He then adds: "At the same time, it's contact that happened because of a misjudgment; just Lando misjudged the distance to the car ahead. There was certainly no mal-intent.

"It cost Lando quite a lot in the championship."

  9. 'A tricky race in general and not an ideal finish' - Piastripublished at 21:25 British Summer Time 15 June

Oscar Piastri finished in fourth and on the collision with Lando Norris, he told to Sky Sports: "It’s not ideal for anyone, I’ve not actually seen the incident so I don’t know exactly what happened, but if Lando [Norris] has taken full responsibility then that’s how it goes I guess.

"Just a bit of a tricky race in general and not an ideal finish."

On it being a fair battle: "It was but he [Norris] made quite a large move into Turn 10, I held my own into the chicane. It was definitely a tough battle but a clean one up until that point.

"I’ve not seen the incident but I don’t think there was any bad intentions involved I think it was just unfortunate really.

"I will go and have a look and we’re both fighting for a world championship and I’m very thankful to the team that they allow us to race, I don’t expect this to change anything in terms of that."

On the race itself: "I think we had a little bit more pace but not enough to overtake basically. We tried to go long on both the stints but I think ultimately in the final stint the tyres held up better than we hoped for the others and we didn’t have enough of an advantage to do anything, so that was a bit of a shame.

"I think our pace was OK but not the race I expected with the bad start and that kind of cemented us in fourth and I don’t think we had enough of an advantage to do anything else."

On extending the lead in the drivers’ championship: "For me, this weekend wasn’t good enough and it’s still far far too early to think that that is an comfortable advantage or anything like that.

"There’s a long way to go in the season and we’ve got to try and improve on the whole."

  10. 'Silly from my part' - Norrispublished at 21:21 British Summer Time 15 June

McLaren's Lando Norris, who did not finish the race after a collision with team-mate Oscar Piastri: "No one to blame but myself, so I apologise to the whole team and to Oscar as well for attempting something a bit too silly. Glad I didn't ruin his race and yeah apologies to the team."

On whether he asked if he could be let through as the faster car: "No."

On a battle with his team-mate: "This was more silly, it wasn't even like... that's racing. Yeah, silly from my part."

On getting ready for Austria: "I'll go to bed tonight, apologies to everyone and crack on."

  11. Double joy for Mercedespublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 15 June

The recent triple-header was fruitless in terms of podiums for Mercedes but now the team are celebrating a double one in Montreal.

And with his third place this weekend, 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli becomes the third-youngest podium finisher in F1 history.

  12. 'I’m really happy to bring the podium home' - Antonellipublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 15 June

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli takes his first F1 podium in third: "It was so stressful but super happy, I had a good start I managed to jump into P3 and I just stayed up there at the front.

"The last stint I pushed a bit too hard behind Max [Verstappen] and I killed a bit of the front left and I struggled a bit at the end, but I’m really happy to bring the podium home."

On passing Oscar Piastri: "I had a good first launch and managed to get alongside and then in the first corner I just tried to carry as much speed as possible.

"When I was alongside him in Turn Two I knew I would have had the advantage especially going into Turn Three."

On Mercedes’ performance and a potential race win: "That’s the goal, this track has been good for us and the car has been incredible all weekend. Hopefully we can carry the same momentum into the next few races."

  13. 'We’ll always do the best we can' - Verstappenpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 15 June

Max Verstappen and George RussellImage source, Getty Images

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finished second in Montreal: "It was quite a good race, even though in the first two stints we were struggling quite a bit on the tyres, so we were doing quite an aggressive strategy but luckily in the final stint we managed to hang in there and actually the pace was a little better, lower fuel loads so that was good.

"We drove an attacking/defending race, so attacking with the strategy, defending with the cars behind. But it worked out for us and I think that was the maximum possible for us today.

On the championship and gaining points: "It’s a long season, so you need to go race by race. We’ll always do the best we can."

On looking forward to Austria: "Yeah for sure, It's always a great weekend there. We've had a lot of great results and hopefully we can have another strong weekend there."

  14. 'We had high expectations and it worked out as we thought' - Russellpublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 15 June

Mercedes' George Russell, who wins the Canadian Grand Prix from pole position: "It’s amazing to be back on the top step, the last one for us was back in Vegas. I felt last year was a victory lost and then we got the victory today probably due to the incredible pole lap yesterday.

"I’m so happy to see Kimi [Antonelli] on the podium as well, it’s an amazing day for the team. Thanks to everybody back at the factory who have been working so hard to get us back fighting for victories and it feels good."

On the car: "It’s a little bit cooler around here, we saw it last year in Canada. I would love to get our hopes up but I think the strength of our car is in the cooler conditions, let’s see into the coming races but we will enjoy this for now."

On keeping the performance for the next race: "Time will tell. We won Austria last year so maybe that’s a good omen, we will enjoy it for the time being. We did have high expectations coming into this weekend and it worked out as we thought."

Onto the cooldown room now and the atmosphere is celebratory as the trio watch the highlights of the 70-lap race. I don't think the McLaren collision shows up on screen, though - there's no doubt that's the big talking point from round 10. Lando Norris held his hands up straight away after the two cars touched, so let's see what he has to say when the drivers take to the media pen shortly.

George Russell gallops out to the top step of the podium and is saluting the fans as the national anthems rings out.

Below the top five, Esteban Ocon has picked up points for Haas on their 200th race, Nico Hulkenberg adds to his and Sauber's tally and Carlos Sainz recovers after his Q1 disappointment to score a point.
