Cheered on by Scotland team-mate Kirsty Gilmour, who goes for gold in the women's singles final tomorrow, Imogen Bankier and Robert Blair find a breakthrough in their mixed doubles medal match.

Bankier and Blair take a tight first game 21-17 against Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Lai Pei Jing. Follow the action here

So it is time for a quick break in the boxing. But there will be more jabbing and weaving about 19:00 BST when England's Savannah Marshall goes toe-to-toe with Ariane Fortin of Canada in the women's middleweight final.

Victory would be redemption for Marshall after a miserable London 2012 experience, where she crashed out in the first round. "I know what to expect now, so I'm more prepared," says the 23-year-old from Hartlepool.

"I think Charlie Flynn should stay amateur for a couple more years and get more experience, but I imagine there will be a few promoters having a look at him.

"As for tonight, Anthony Fowler looked really good in his semi-final, and knocked his opponent down. He has good boxing skills and I would put my money on him winning the gold medal."

The wee man can't believe his luck. Charlie Flynn belts out 'Flower of Scotland' with the gusto of a burly Scottish prop at Murrayfield, kisses the 100g of gold dangling around his neck umpteen times, all the while beaming like a Cheshire Cat.

Charlie Flynn is the new star of these Games for me. Never mind the Scottish star's gold-winning performance in the ring, he deserves another medal for his post-fight antics. There was a danger that he might miss his medal ceremony because he was too busy talking to everyone and anyone in the mixed zone. Thankfully he's got there...

England javelin thrower Goldie Sayers:, external "Having watched the netball and squash at Glasgow 2014, it seems insane to include golf in the Olympics at the expense of these two great sports."

"...in the red corner". That is all that Josh Taylor needs to hear. He is off and running.

Scotland's second gold inside the hour at the SECC and the place is a sweaty cauldron of patriotism.

And here comes Charlie Flynn to collect gold and crank it up another notch.

Josh Taylor was in trouble at time in the final round. Junias Jonas had him hiding behind peekaboo forearms for much of the round as he kept up a furious rate of punching.

It would have to be a heck of a turnaround in the scoring though to deny Taylor.

Laura Massaro: "I'm disappointed that we didn't win but we gave it our all, we've had a great week and I'm proud of the silver. I'm more proud of my performances in the doubles than the singles really.

"We don't play it for four years so for us to come together as a pair with very little preparation and perform like that is something to be proud of."

Jenny Duncalf: "I think we got beat by a better pair to be honest, it's disappointing but they played really well."

Josh Taylor is having to be wary. Junias Jonas's cavalier approach, gloves by his waistband for as long as they are guarding his chin, makes him a dangerously unpredictable fighter. But the Scot is taking due diligence so far and he wins the second round on all three cards.

Canada's Anqi Luo and Mo Zhang complete a remarkable recovery to beat England's Joanna Drinkhall and Kelly Sibley in their bronze medal match. The English pair won the first two games but, after spurning a match point, lost 11-6 12-10 8-11 12-14 10-12 in a match lasting 48 minutes.

  14. Boxingpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 2 August 2014

Junias Jonas is a wild and windy type of boxer, throwing punches from either wing and leaving his chin wide open as he advances. He takes a trip to the canvas after one foray, but it is more to do with a loss of balance as he tangles legs than any clean shot from Josh Taylor.

Taylor is neat and tidy though and lands with better quality. That is enough to win the round on all three cards.

There is the sound of pipes in the air. It isn't for Charlie Flynn's medal ceremony. The men's lightweight champion is still gassing with the media as he revels in his triumph.

Instead the pipes are being given a blast for the arrival of fellow Scot Josh Taylor. Both he and men's light welterweight final opponent, Namibia's Junias Jonas have chalked up four unanimous victories.

"I can't wait to win a gold medal in front of the Scottish fans," said Taylor after beating fierce domestic rival Sam Maxwell in the semi-finals. Let's see.

Scotland's Commonwealth lightweight champion Charlie Flynn, speaking to BBC One: "The mail man delivers once again! Commonwealth champion? I'm not used to hearing that! It will take 10 times for it to sink in.

"Sometimes you need to be awkward to beat awkwardness, that was a hard fight. I thought I was going to drop dead! The crowd was like a thunderstorm, every time you landed a punch there was a roar.

"I don't know what is next, I will wait and see, there is a lot of funding involved in this. I'm part time. I'd like to thank everyone but especially my dad, he has been training me ever day for three or four years, two hours every morning. My mum, washing all my clothes, Frank in the gym. All the work that goes on in the background, nobody really understands it."
