    England endured a fifth successive Commonwealth Games semi-final defeat earlier today, losing 35-34 to defending champions New Zealand.They play Jamaica for the bronze medal at 10:00 BST on Sunday.

    Charlie Flynn is as tenacious as a terrier, marching forward, ducking through the barrage of jabs from Joe Fitzpatrick and landing with his own, more significant, shots.

    The Scot has won the second round on all three scorecards and is just three minutes away for a home gold. If he can stay upright and out of too much trouble it will be his.

    Charlie Flynn taps his glove to his chest and then extends his fist to the crowd as the round comes to an end. He caught Joe Fitzpatrick with a compact left hook in the final seconds of the round and the judges award him a clean sweep of the cards.

    Fitzpatrick has a cut above his eye from a previous bout. It is protected by a greasy smear of petroleum jelly, but it is a timebomb of trouble for him.

    Next up in the ring is the men's lightweight final and the noise to greet Scotland's Charlie Flynn is tumultous. The 20-year-old is a member of the Glasgow Pheonix club and has been hanging around punch bags and speeds pads since he was seven.

    "I've been in the gym since I was a small boy, just hitting the bags and running about. You're not meant to join the gym at age seven, but I just used to sneak in, and eventually they let me in and I would train with my big brother," he told the BBC in October.

    He is taking on 19-year-old Joe Fitzpatrick of Northern Ireland who has a height advantage and a southpaw stance. He'll be awkward.

    "Next there are the worlds and europeans, I'm still young. It's been an amazing experience. I wanted the gold medal but I have boxed Olympians and I know I am at the top level, it just wasn't my day today. All credit to Michael."

    Northern Ireland's Commonwealth men's bantamweight champion Michael Conlan, speaking to BBC Sport: "Qais Ashfaq, from the start I have been watching him - what a very skilled boxer, he is one for the future. What a talent he is. He took the first round and made me drive on but the drive in me won it.

    "That was the toughest fight. It's the first time I have been down after the first round. Today I knew I had it in me to drive on and that's what I did. My father's been my trainer all my life and it's great to see him get so much recognition here at the Commonwealth Games."

    India have made an impressive start to their women's doubles final.

    Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa take the first game 11-6 against England pair Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro, who were silver medallists in Delhi four years ago.

    Pallikal took a nasty knock midway through the game - falling backwards against the side wall - but it hasn't hindered her so far.
