"Michaela Walsh believes she beat Nicola Adams but pretty much nobody in the media tribune agrees with her, with most believing it should have been a unanimous decision for England's Olympic champion rather than a split one. Take nothing away from Walsh, however, she will be a force to be reckoned with at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, fighting for Ireland of course."

  7. #bbcglasgow2014published at 14:28 British Summer Time 2 August 2014

Ruari Giles:, external What a champ and gracious boxer. Well done Nicola Adams.

David Talbot:, external Great win by Adams and an appalling display of bad sportsmanship in the loser's interview!

Think that is little harsh David. Michaela Walsh paid tribute to Nicola Adams, but was honest about the fact that she thought that she won the fight.

It was wafer tight on the judges' scorecards. Nicola Adams shades it on a third after the first two ruled it a draw.

Michaela Walsh doesn't agree. Not in the slightest. She shakes her heads, wags her finger and departs the ring in a state of devastation.

  12. Boxingpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 2 August 2014

Both Michaela Walsh and Nicola Adams greet the bell with celebratory arms aloft. But I think it is Walsh who is bluffing. She upped the work rate, but not enough to steal the fight away.

    Lucy O'Connor

Nicola Adams is fighting like a boxer who believes she is ahead on the cards. She is happy to wait for Walsh to come to her and then land counters. It is her natural style and it shows. A couple of right hand replies from the Englishwoman are the highlights of a scrappy round.

    Lucy O'Connor
BBC Sport boxing expert & English champion

"Better rhythm here from Nicola Adams, she is using her movement just to get inside the slightly longer range of Michaela Walsh. There was a good positive end to round two from Walsh, although Adams probably just edged the more eye-catching exchanges."

  16. Boxingpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 2 August 2014

Michaela Walsh is very game, but when it comes to exchanges it is Nicola Adams who looks the faster and more accurate. Adams does not mind mixing it in the clinches either. She gets in a few sneaky lefts as the referee lets the two try and sort themselves out in a grapple.

A technical problem is keeping us in the dark about the judges' opinions, but both the first two rounds have been Adams' for me.

  17. Boxingpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 2 August 2014

Intriguing stuff in the opening round. Walsh came out and set up camp in the centre of the ring, but it was Adams who landed the cleaner blows - one overhand right was a shot to shudder the very marrow.

"Nicola Adams has that spark about her. I saw her in the changing rooms, she looks nice and calm. It will be a tough fight against Michaela Walsh but she has the tools to win gold."
