"Max Whitlock has stolen the show. Two days on the trot he has broken the 90 barrier and with great style and flair. I knew he wouldn't play it safe, everything was done to full virtuosity.

"I remember speaking to him at the World Championships in 2011 when he was named as reserve and was so disappointed. It was a case of: 'Relax, your time will come.' He has proved that."

"There are some interesting stories among the home nation wrestlers competing for medals in the SECC precinct.

"Viorel Etko, who was born in Moldova, arrived in Britain as an asylum-seeker 16 years ago but will have the support of the home crowd behind him as he looks to earn Scotland a bronze on the mat.

"Then there's the 26-year-old from Bristol who has had a bus named after him - as well as four years free travel - in recognition of being selected by England for the Commonwealth Games. Will Leon Rattigan, pictured here in the red prove he has the drive to succeed?

"In total, Scotland and England could win three bronze medals each here in the next two hours. Northern Ireland will also be hoping Londonderry-born Hugh McCloskey can deliver a bronze."

"What a star. They have all been great but Max Whitlock has been shining brightest today. He has his eye on making inroads at the World Championships.

"Absolutely fabulous from Daniel Keatings to win silver, the crowd were willing him on and he peaked every move, he did every move to its maximum.

"Nile Wilson is a real natural gymnast, that step backwards on his dismount from the high bar was probably the one single error we have seen from him today. He wins bronze and is happy with a medal."

Nile Wilson's routine is technical, tricky and, judging by his punch of the air afterwards, he thinks it is good enough for an upgrade to silver.

He needs 15.100 from the judges. Will they oblige? Or will that slight step back on dismount cost him?

A review is under way into comments by Athletics Australia chief Eric Hollingsworth in which he labels Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson a "bad example" to the team.

Pearson, who begins her Commonwealth defence on Thursday, was fined for choosing to race in London this month instead of attending the team camp in Gateshead. The 27-year-old opted to compete at the Anniversary Games in the capital to gain race fitness having recently returned from a hamstring injury.

"What's lost here is she's the team captain and there's a reasonable expectation she'd be in the camp ahead of something as major as the Commonwealth Games," Hollingsworth said in a statement., external

"Her no-show sets a bad example to the entire national team."

Australia's Commonwealth Games team manager Diane Gallagher, chef de mission Steve Moneghetti and Athletics Australia are meeting right now.

He gives the crowd a downbeat wave as he ends his competition with a 13.466 score for a total of 84.865. He has clocked north of 90 in the past.
