England have had a strong third quarter, quicker of brain and foot compared to the Australians.

They won that part of the game 12-10 to move into a 39-36 lead.

It has been getting pretty physical as well with plenty of off-ball barge.

"All set for day three of the swimming here in Tollcross and there are some big names in action this morning. Olympic champion Chad Le Clos - aka the 'Phelps-slayer' after beating the USA great at London 2012 - competes in his favoured 200m butterfly event.

"England's defending champion Liam Tancock goes in the 50m backstroke heats, and Aussie James 'The Missile' Magnussen lines up in the first round of the men's 100m freestyle."

"In the battle of the goal shooters, 6ft 4in Caitlin Bassett of Australia is edging England's Joanne Harten. The Perth-born journalism student has a 100% success rate with her 20 efforts. The tournament favourites need her to remain consistent as this titanic tussle has swung one way then the other. England have a one-point lead - small margins will probably decide this."

Wales rugby sevens player Will Harries, speaking to BBC One: "One mistake in sevens and it's a try and potentially a lost game, that is why we have to work so hard in training. We've been training for two months and have had some good results, the hard work does make you tighter as a squad."

Scottish flag-bearer Euan Burton took his elimination in the second round at London 2012 to heart.

He will be determined to go far in front of a home crowd and begins his campaign in the men's 100kg category at 10:28 BST today. Evans Ouko Kengara of Kenya will be opposite him in his round of 16 match.

There are emotional scenes at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre as England's Stewart Nangle secures qualification in second place for the 10m air pistol final, and then takes up the crutches that are a legacy of an accident some years ago, before hugging his tearful wife.

His compatriot, Mick Gault, recovers from a slow start to make the final in fifth place, but Scotland's David Owen and Alan Ritchie miss out. India's Prakash Nanjappa led throughout qualifying and looks the man to beat.

Start of the second quarter over at the SECC and England have been the more clinical so far. They are up 16-11.

A win here would not be a knockout punch on the Australians though.

The top two in each Pool will progress to the semi-finals and Australia, who beat Wales 63-36 in their opener, could well make the last four even if they lose this morning.

I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one to play a kind of squash-football hybrid.

Scotland judoka Sarah Clark, who won gold in the -63kg on Friday, is sounding fairly Zen on BBC Breakfast: "After last night, nothing hurts at the minute; I think the adrenaline is still there. Judo means the gentle way, that is the translation from Japanese, you are trying to pin or throw your opponent. But even when I watch it I don't quite realise the strength involved.

"I can be quite neutral, I'm not an aggressive person, I am quite easy going but you can channel your aggression. When you feel your best inside that comes out on the mat."

"The team triathlon is a really fast and dynamic event; I think it has brought a new dimension to the sport. There is a lot of pressure because you are not racing for yourself.

"It was a major step for the mixed event to be included here and now we are really pushing for it to make an appearance at the Olympics in Tokyo 2020."

Where are you going to tuck the baton inside that wetsuit?

Thankfully the competitors are spared from that dilemma in the first ever Commonwealth triathlon relay later today.

Just a slap of the hand will suffice at the handover,

England, with individual champions Alistair Brownlee and Jodie Stimpson ably supported by Jonathan Brownlee and Vicky Holland, will be white-hot favourites at 12:30 BST.
