Good start from England's Kristian Callaghan. After the first round of five shots he is leading the standings. In this one the lowest scorer is eliminated every two shots after the first 12 shots.

The shooters are all firing at a target board rather than the moving targets in some of the other shooting events.

The Courier Mail has taken the time to search dating app Tinder for athletes looking for romance in the local area. They say athletes from “dozens of nations” are on the app and claim to be “looking for fun” while in the area.

A few home nations athletes get a special mention, with a boxer and a hockey player named in the article.

The piece adds: “An English sprinter says he has already fallen in love with Australia and asks girls ‘if you see me around, come say hi.”

Apparently, some of the athletes have used Games mascot Borobi in their profile picture.

    Now that’s just wrong.

Just had the most surreal moment of a Games that has included a surfing seven-foot blue koala.

After plonking myself down on the floor in a non-descript back corridor of the Gold Coast Convention Centre to send an email, I hear a vague commotion and look up from my screen to find Prince Edward and a posse of minders looming over.

The Commonwealth Games Federation vice patron, decked out in CGF blazer, is on his way to watch South Africa v Barbados in the netball of course.

Sod’s Law that the moment you run into royalty comes about an hour after your decade-old sandals finally disintegrate on you.

I don’t think Ed noticed fortunately.

Many predicted that Mery Kom would retire after failing to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics, especially as she is now a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s Parliament and has been since April 2016.

But her impressive 5-0 victory over North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in Ho Chi Minh City shows she’s not ready to hang up the gloves.

“I can beat anyone,” Kom said after the fight. “If I maintain the fitness levels, nobody can touch me.”

Her victory was immediately recognised by Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi, who tweeted: “Congratulations Mery Kom… India is elated at your accomplishment”. It’s fair to say that a decent number of India’s 1.2 billion inhabitants will be tuning in to cheer on Kom on the Gold Coast.

Day seven is upon us but the local media are not fed up of the tales Gold Coast 2018 is serving up.

On the cover of today’s Gold Coast Bulletin we are informed that Australia’s time trial champion gold medalist started cycling 10 years ago when here husband bought her a £150 bike on Gumtree.

Katrin Garfoot speaks candidly about not knowing whether to target Tokyo in 2020 or start a family.

“Cycling doesn’t pay that much and I’m old. There are a lot of things to consider,” said the 36-year-old.

    New Zealand 45-54 England

England are into the semi-finals of the netball after a fine display.

Here's goalkeeper Geva Mentor: "We knew they were going to come out for us today. They came out so hard and we had to try and match that throughout the game. We just about hung on.

"Still not perfect and we're going to have to be more clinical in the semi-finals.

"We've spent the last four years competing with teams we knew were going to match us.

"And to do it on this stage with the England netball team, we're very proud of what we did today."

    Men's 1m springboard

England's Jack Laugher is still leading the way after four of six dives of the men's 1m springboard. Sri Lanka's Sahan Peiris has just been scored 24.00 and was within a couple of feet of landing on the concrete on the side of the pool instead of the water after going a little off course.

I'm no diving expert but I know that's not good.

England's Ross Haslam is second, James Heatly fifth and Jack Haslam seventh. They're all going through if it stays like this.

    Jo Harten

Thumbs up from England goal-shooter Jo Harten after that win over New Zealand to close out their pool campaign.

"That was one of goals coming into the Commonwealths - to be a top two side in a major. A lot of hard work has gone into that victory," she tells BBC Sport.

Both she and goal attack Helen Housby play their club netball in Australia and Housby says that it that experience helps them come through in high-quality, big-pressure encounters.

"It almost feels like you play a match like that every week. It has prepared me so well being in the New South Wales Swifts environment, it has definitely made me a better player," she explains.

Whoever it is next in the semi-finals had better watch out, England and Housby are not done yet.

"I don't care about humiliating whoever I play against. We don't care who we are up against, we are here for England," she adds.

"I think that is the the first time that New Zealand have lost two in the pool stages, but to be honest that is music to my ears."
