Big smiles all around. I was watching Holt prepare for this race and she was waving and smiling with the whole crowd. A great performance. She's 16, she must have been very nervous.

We know her future is going to be really rosy. It's great for the Australian crowd to see this young woman in operation. What she's done on home soil is really fantastic to see.

I’ve just had a chat with Mark Ellison, the nutritionist for Anthony Joshua and England’s boxers here.

He’s told me about the routine these fighters go through. He’s up at 5am ready to weigh them, then they weigh before bed. During the day some of them may train so he will weigh them afterwards and see how much weight they have to spare, which will determine what they can eat.

    “It’s never ending”, he says.

    It sounds it.

    And speaking of Starc...

The medal presentation for the women's 3000m steeplechase is being done by Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate.

Even the politician can't keep a poker face however as a roar rips across from the opposite side of the stadium where Aussie Brandon Starc has cleared a personal best 2.32m to take the lead in the high jump.

A smirk crosses Tate's face on the big screen. Starc does not have to bother with any pretense of restraint and roars with delight.

Rhythmic gymnastics: Team final and individual qualification

Despite both England and Wales missing out on the team medals, the team finals also acted as the qualifying for the individual categories, which saw better news for the home nations.

In the all-around category, Wales' Laura Halford qualifies fourth, so will be among the favourites for Thursday's final, while Wales' Gemma Frizelle and the England pair of Hannah Martin and Stephani Sherlock also go through.

In the hoop, Halford also qualifies for that final, along with compatriot Frizelle.

Halford will also be in the ball final, along with England's Martin and, while no home nations gymnasts progressed in the clubs category, Halford has also reached the ribbon final.

All four individual apparatus finals will be held on Friday and Halford could challenge for three medals on top of Thursday's all-around final.
