Never mind her quads and hamstrings from last night, it will be Melissa Courtney's face muscles that ache after today.

The 24-year-old's 1000-watt smile is full beam for the duration of the 1500m medal ceremony.

The Welshwoman's bronze was her first individual medal at a major championship.

All the more remarkable because it was only in January 2017 that she was diagnosed with a rare inherited metabolic disorder which means she is unable to digest protein. It leads to a build-up of ammonia in her bloodstream which has, in the past, put her into intensive care.

South Africa's Caster Semenya and Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech join her on the steps,

Should James Heatly win a medal at these Games, it would be a very special moment for his family.

He says he would "love" to honour the memory of his late grandfather by winning Scotland's first Commonwealth diving medal for 60 years since Sir Peter Heatly earned his fifth medal - and third gold - in 1958.

Malaysia are topping the charts, with Cyprus not far behind the leaders.

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

It hasn't been a great athletics competition for the England team. It's an interesting Commonwealth Games because it's in April.

Typically most countries will have national championships in June. It has created a challenge for a lot of athletes in figuring out what is the priority for this year. It's not to say the games shouldn't be in April but it has created a challenge.

I'm not making excuses for the athletes but it doesn't negate the fact that it's hard to figure out how to prepare for something they're not used to.
