We're still yet to see Katarina Johnson-Thompson after her first throw in the javelin. I believe she has thought that is good enough and doesn't need to waste her energy.

Her lead has been cut to 174 by Nina Schultz's throw of 43.11m.

That’s all you can say about Northern Ireland’s Carly McNaul as she joins England’s Lisa Whiteside in the 48-51kg final. A home nations shootout it is.

McNaul used crowdfunding to be here and tells BBC Sport: “I gave up my job and everything. I couldn’t do it without my parents who are at home looking after my boy. This is for you son.”

McNaul won all three rounds and even forced a count on her Kenyan opponent.

“I’m bringing the gold back to east Belfast,” she adds.

Nevertheless winning silver is a remarkable achievement for the pair, who share warm embraces with their more experienced team-mates poolside.

That was seriously gutsy from Lisa Whiteside. She lost the first round comfortably but found a way back into her semi-final against an Australian being roared on.

Against a taller opponent who was happy to try and pick her off when she got close, she took risks and worked so hard to get back into the fight. A split decision shows how close it was.

She tells us her mum will be “crying her eyes out at home”, adding: “No one is taking that gold off me now.”

The Commonwealth Games final awaits tomorrow.
