Next up on the track is the all-action excitement of the men's 4x100m relay heats. England, further weakened by the absence of Adam Gemili, have a tough heat against reigning Olympic and Commonwealth champions Jamaica and Rio 2016 bronze medallists Canada. That one is up second.

In this first heat 2014 bronze medallists Trinidad and Tobago make a right mess of a change over and drop the baton. They are out. Told you this would be fun.

South Africa win it and Australia take the second qualifying place. There are also two fastest losers spots available.

The whiteboard on the way into the Carrara Leisure Centre contains a list of wrestling facts.

Are we having all of them?

I will certainly be looking out for the Flying Squirrel move.

Look at that emotion! She's just 15 years of age. Her mum who is in the crowd will be immensely proud.

Now all eyes on England's Niamh Emerson. Here she comes...

... she fails to improve on that strong second jump and stays fourth after her final effort.

KJT's 18-year-old team-mate Niamh Emerson continues to impress. She was fourth in the standings overnight and has just jumped 6.06m, the third best we have seen so far. She gets a big high-five from her coach.

    Leisure centre

The Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre feels like the vanity-project library that your university inexplicably found £20m for.

Finished last year, it is gleaming new, full of air and light and stylish interior design touches. Remember the Brittas Empire? Yeah, nothing like the leisure centre in that.

According to the architects, "the bold colour and material palette embodies the young, vibrant and confident image of the Gold Coast."

And a chunky contract for themselves.

Perfect response from Katarina Johnson-Thompson. She improves by 30cm on her second jump with a leap of 6.50m.

Never one to hide her emotions, KJT is clearly pleased with that as she breaks into a smile.

Going off personal bests, no one in this field will get close to that mark. Johnson-Thompson is going to extend her overall lead. She has one jump left.

    Heptathlon

I said Katarina Johnson-Thompson should be comfortably too good for the field in this long jump but Canada's Nina Schultz, currently in the silver medal position, has just jumped into second place in this event with a personal best of 6.19m. That's just a centimetre behind KJT so at least puts the pressure on the Liverpudlian to improve in her next two jumps.

That's the end of round one. Johnson-Thompson leads.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson's long jump personal best of 6.92m is 0.58m better than anyone else in this heptathlon field so this should be another event where she extends her lead.

She was not at her best on day one of the heptathlon competition but still has a 126-point lead at the top of the standings.

She was fifth fastest in the 100m hurdles and 200m, joint-first in the high jump, ninth in the shot put.

After this long jump she has the javelin (03:25) and 800m (11:05), looking to seal her first outdoor global title.
