    Kenyan fans

Meet the Kariukis - mum Damaris with Leanna and Ethan.

They have travelled over from Kenya for the Commonwealths and are combining a trip to Carrara Stadium for Hellen Obriri's 5000m bid at 06:20 BST with watching tomorrow's marathons in which their nation, as ever, will be well represented.

One problem, they are one ticket shy and the walk-up box office has sold out.

Fortunately a passer-by overhears the conversation as I explain my press accreditation can't help much and says she has a spare.

    Happy days.

What's to come in the athletics...published at 05:13 British Summer Time 14 April 2018

    Athletics

05:25 BST: Women’s high jump final. Morgan Lake came fourth at last month’s World Indoor Championships and can reasonably expect to improve on that here for England. The big threat is St Lucia’s two-time bronze medallist Levern Spencer, who is seeking her country’s first Commonwealth gold or silver medal.

05:40 BST: Men’s 4x100m relay final. England qualified fastest in their heat on Friday, but will once again have to cope without the injured Adam Gemili.

05:57 BST: Women’s 4x100m relay final. England go in lane five and have half of the quartet who won world silver for Great Britain last summer. There’s no Elaine Thompson listed for defending champions Jamaica.

06:15 BST: Men’s triple jump final. Nathan Douglas qualified for England.

06:20 BST: Women’s 5000m final. Laura Weightman runs for England, with Eilish McColgan going for Scotland.

07:10 BST: Men’s 1500m final. Kenya boast current world gold and silver medallists Elijah Manangoi and Timothy Cheruiyot. European bronze medallist Chris O’Hare and 800m finalist Jake Wightman are in action for Scotland, as will England's Charles Da'vall Grice.

07:38 BST: Women’s 4x400m relay final - England and Scotland both compete.

08:07 BST: Men’s 4x400m relay final - England failed to qualify to defend their title, and Jamaica finished fastest in heats.

Irvine beaten to gold by Solanki

India’s Gaurav Solanki was a bit too rapid for Northern Ireland’s Brendan Irvine a short while ago. High tempo action just saw him connecting before Irvine could land.

The split decision saw Solanki drop to his knees while those supporting him got up and touched some sky.

An impressive morning’s work from England’s 17-year-old divers Matt Dixon and Noah Williams who have qualified for the 10m final with the two highest scores.

They’re reset to zero for the final, but it show there’s yet more medal potential for the home nations who won gold medals in all three of yesterday’s finals.

"I still feel I can make improvements," Dixon, who won synchronised 10m silver with Williams yesterday, tells me.

"It would obviously be great to be up there on the podium again but I’m just going to focus on each dive at a time."

Williams, who is only competing after Tom Daley withdrew from the event with a hip injury, added: "I’m just loving being out there competing and there’s no pressure but I want to do my best tonight and then anything can happen."

    Women's singles semi-finals

A British player might not be winning a gold or silver in the men's singles, but they still might in the women's competition.

Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour has taken her semi-final into a decider, claiming the second game 21-18 against India's Saina Nehwal.

Gilmour is only 24 years old but is competing in her third Games and going for a second successive silver. An impressive CV.

    FT: England 33-0 Samoa

That's a second victory of the day for England after seeing off Jamaica in their opener.

Samoa made far too many mistakes and England looked in-sync in attack.

Their final pool match is against Australia at 11:05 BST.

That will surely decide the winner of the pool and who qualifies automatically for the knockout stages. Don't miss it!

Belfast boxer Brendan Irvine finishes with a flurry in the final round but it's India's Gaurav Solanki of India who takes gold. Some huge punches in that final from the two 21-year-olds.

That's the second gold for his country in the boxing ring after Mary Kom took the women's -48kg division earlier this morning.

    Men's singles semi-finals

We think Kidambi Srikanth has got this one covered. He's got SEVEN match points against England's Rajiv Ouseph in their men's singles semi-final.

Ouseph goes down fighting, saving three of them - in-between Srikanth accidentally demolishing his racket as it slips out of his grasp after an overhead smash.

The British number one saves a fourth match point... he can't, can he? Nope. Srikanth seals victory.

Ouseph can't match his silver from Delhi 2010, but has the chance to claim a second successive bronze.

Rose Keddell somehow gets the ball through a crowd of Aussie defenders to score New Zealand's second in the women's hockey gold medal match.

The hosts will need to dig deep into their reserves to claw this one back now, as the Kiwis have been pretty resolute so far.

Australia have won four of the five hockey golds (India won in 2002) in Commonwealth Games history.

New Zealand have never won it.

    HT: England 26-0 Samoa

Two tries for Dan Bibby either side of Tom Mitchell's score, and Harry Glover gets a cheeky hand on the ball for another five-points on the whistle.

England are just too good from the kick-offs at the moment and they're looking confident at half-time in the men's sevens.

They've lost a player in Ethan Waddleton though, as he limps (not waddles) off the field. Ouch.

I love the relentlessness of the boxing. There is literally no hanging around.

Bout exits the ring, previous bout medal ceremony starts, anthem plays, clear the decks in seconds, next bout into the ring.

The giant clock above the screen counts us down from 10 seconds and we go again. Bout 190 of the week in boxing’s Commonwealth factory.

Laura Massaro won silver in the women's doubles at Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014... she isn't going to make it a hat-trick.

The 34-year-old and partner Sarah-Jane Perry lose their semi-final against defending champions Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal.

The India pair nick a tight opening game 11-10 before putting their foot to the pedal in second. They win that 11-5 in 10 minutes and advance without the need of a third game.
