    Selby/Waller (Eng) 9-11 Palmer/Alexander (Aus)

England bat off one of the game points for 10-9... but can't save the second. Daryl Selby is fuming, the Englishman reckons he was obstructed and that should have been a let. The referee disagrees and the home crowd go wild. The Aussies want to beat the English in any sport. Beat them bad.

David Palmer and Zac Alexander win the first game of this best-of-three gold medal match.

This is a different Jo Harten we're seeing for England. The shooter struggled against Jamaica in the semi-final, despite slotting the winner, but she's got her confidence back.

We're going goal for goal here, six minutes until half time.

But there's another miss from Helen Housby. Is she feeling the pressure? And the hosts have a two-goal lead.

England are battling hard in that attack end, and finding their shooters on the third second.

Helen Housby misses her first shot of the game, by my reckoning, and Australia take a one-goal lead through Susan Pettitt.

England goal-keeper Geva Mentor is winning the battle with Aussie Diamond Caitlin Bassett in their shooting circle.

They know each other so well, playing at Sunshine Coast Lightning, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lisa Alexander introduces Caitlin Thwaites soon...

These squash boys do an amount of lunging that would leave us mere mortals unable to walk for a week. My glutes are hurting just watching.

England edge an intense rally to reduce the score to 9-8 before Australia's Alexander produces a 'Zac attack' with an overhead slam dunk.

As the stats board appears at either end of the venue it shows both sides scored with 93% of their attempts in that first quarter. England completed two interceptions while Australia didn’t manage one.

It seemed Australia began to flow a little more late in the quarter.

I should add, there’s one lady on the Australia bench who seems to have the job of holding up a clock with how long is left. Oddly, there are four giant scoreboards with the time on them in this venue.

    Selby/Waller (Eng) 7-9 Palmer/Alexander (Aus)

England's Daryl Selby and Adrian Waller match their Australian rivals point for point in a tense atmosphere inside the Oxenford Studios.

A mistake from Waller allows their opponents to sneak 8-7 ahead, bringing a huge roar of encouragement from the home crowd.

Another error sees that lead extended to 9-7 and the Aussies are two points from taking the opener.

    Australia 14-13 England

No changes for the second quarter from either side.

Yesterday, England head coach Tracey Neville wasn't afraid to make early decisions, and hauled Jo Harten off in the second quarter.

The goal shooter is playing far better in this match though, she's only missed one shot from nine.

I'm not sure I can take three more quarters of this.

Australia are playing with really good width - they're dragging the England defenders apart so that they can't work together.

It was important for England to get within touching distance of Australia after being behind early on, and that late point may give them the momentum.

Geva Mentor gets a vital intercept at the end of the first quarter to stop Australia taking a three-goal lead... and Jo Harten sinks a huge shot from distance to draw England back within one.

A phenomenal start on the Gold Coast. England playing without any nerves and they're right in this clash.

"It's awesome what you're doing," England head coach Tracey Neville tells Harten at the break.

    Men's doubles gold-medal match

David Palmer is a bit of a legend round these parts. The 41-year-old Aussie is a former world number one singles player and is competing in his sixth Commonwealth Games.

His trophy cabinet is full of Commonwealths bling, having won nine medals in total.

Can England's Daryl Selby and Adrian Waller stop him and Zac Alexander winning another? So far they're doling alright, it's all square at 5-5 in a cagey first game. First to 11, best of three remember.

England had a three-goal lead at one point in this first quarter, but Australia are on the charge as we approach the end.

One minute to play, Susan Pettitt misses at one end and Helen Housby sinks hers at the other. It's all-square again.

If Borussia Dortmund’s infamous yellow wall at one end of their ground ever falls down, Australia’s netball fans could take up the running of it.

The golden yellow colour is smothered all over the arena but at one end - the direction the home side are currently attacking - it’s intense.

You may hear the annoying rattle of plastic clapping together in the crowd. Blame these guys for handing out these clappers. I’ll go with clippers, I have no idea what they are really called.

England have got the better of these opening exchanges. Australia look a bit nervous, there's huge pressure on them to win in front of their home crowd.

This is the first time England have ever made a final of a major tournament, and world number one side Australia are expected to win this.

England lead by two with five minutes to play in the first quarter.

England's two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Tamsin Greenway on BBC 5 live:

The team's will be testing each other in the early stages to see what the other can deal with but also what the umpires might let them get away with.

One of the big differences with these England players is that six of them have been out and played for the Australian sides and that's made such a difference having that experience.
