    Essex 125-1 v Lancashire 146

Sam Cook guides one ball away for two, but he survives a big appeal from Nathan Lyon's final ball.

Coming round the wicket, Lyon hits the pads, but the umpire may think it is sliding past leg.

  2. 'Harris has philosophically got on with it'published at 12:10 British Summer Time 20 April

    Derbys v Leics 218-3

Marcus Harris has played some lovely on drives in this innings.

He has phlegmatically, philosophically has just got on with it.

The first 100 for a Leicestershire player this season.

    Well played.

  3. Time for Lyonpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 20 April

    Essex 123-1 v Lancashire 146

Glenn is right, it is time for Nathan Lyon.

After 16 wicketless overs of seam bowling, Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings turns to the Australia great.

He grabbed five wickets at Hampshire last week. Lancs need him to pull a few rabbits out here.

  4. Division Two updatepublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 20 April

Gloucestershire have lost their ninth wicket at Hove, with Zafar Gohar bowled by James Coles for 60. Only one more run needed, though, for fourth batting point on 399-9.

Glamorgan have their first point at Wantage Road thanks to a half-century by Mason Crane, brought up with a slog over mid-on for four off Ben Sanderson, and they are now 260-9.

  5. 'Essex are right on top'published at 12:09 British Summer Time 20 April

    Essex 123-1 v Lancashire 146

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

It is cold at Chelmsford, not baltic, but cold which won’t help the Lancashire mood and nor will dropping the nightwatchman Sam Cook in the first over of the morning.

Since then Cook has looked more and more confident while Dean Elgar is beginning to look like the immoveable object he was on his way to a century against Kent last week.

Essex are right on top here and Lancashire may have to turn to Nathan Lyon…

    Middx 136-7 v Yorks 159

The Middlesex collapse continues at Lord's - that's five wickets gone this morning for 39 runs, three of them for Ben Coad.

Bowling round the wicket, he beats Jack Davies' defensive stroke and the umpire sends the wicketkeeper on his way.

  7. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 20 April

    Hampshire v Warwickshire 391-5

Warwickshire begin the 110th over needing 10 runs to reach a fourth batting point.

Jacob Bethell takes one single from the fifth ball of Liam Dawson's over as the Bears focus on batting big.

The bonus points for this innings end with three for the Bears and only one for Hampshire.

  8. 100 for Marcus Harrispublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 20 April

    Derbys v Leics 217-3

A thoroughbred stroke by Marcus Harris takes him to the first century of his second spell with Leicestershire.

Anuj Dal overpitches and the Australian left-hander drives it back down the ground to the on-side of the stumps for four to reach three figures off 189 balls.

    It's his 28th century in first-class cricket.

  9. 50 partnershippublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 20 April

    Essex 113-1 v Lancashire 146

Dean Elgar pushes one out into the offside and sets off for a run, which he makes.

That clocks up the 50 partnership between him and night-watchman Sam Cook.

Only an hour played this morning, but it already feels like this is going to be a LONG day for Lancashire.

  10. wicket

WICKET du Plooy b Coad 51published at 11:59 British Summer Time 20 April

    Middx 135-6 v Yorks 159

Having just talked him up, Leus du Plooy departs at Lord's as Ben Coad brings one back down the slope and cleans him up.

Barring a major wag of the Middlesex tail, Yorkshire have bowled themselves right back into the game this morning.

Coad now has 2-39 from 12 overs.

James Gulleford: Can anyone explain why games where overs have been lost due to rain always add overs on at the end of the day when there is often bad light rather than starting early like they could have done today? Get the players on the field at 10:30! #bbccricket

That is a good question. It's one of those things about cricket that always vexes us.

  12. Postpublished at 11:53 British Summer Time 20 April

    Somerset 158-2 v Notts 193

After a slow start in which they lost Sean Dickson, Somerset have started to find their groove.

Josh Davey in particular is looking good, he's just hit three fours in Dane Paterson's last over.

In the next over, Tom Lammonby helps himself to a couple of boundaries off Luke Fletcher - the second a lovely shot straight down the ground.

The hosts only trail by 35 runs now.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Leus du Plooypublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 20 April

    Middx 135-5 v Yorks 159

Leus du PlooyImage source, Rex Features

He's 29 now, but given the age of some of their more recent Test debutants, surely South Africa must be taking a look at Leus du Plooy.

The left-hander went into this game with a first-class average of over 48 following last week's 196 not out against Northants, and two runs to square leg off Ben Coad takes him to another 50 from just 43 balls.

  14. Better news from Canterburypublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 20 April

    Kent 144-4 v Surrey

The groundstaff are pulling the covers off at the Spitfire Ground and it looks like Kent will be resuming their first innings in the not too distant following that irritating rain shower.

Nightwatcher George Garrett is 20 not out and Joe Denly has 14.

  15. wicket

WICKET Briggs b Dawson 24published at 11:48 British Summer Time 20 April

    Hampshire v Warwickshire 384-5

Liam Dawson has a reward for his perseverance.

Danny Briggs shuffles across the crease in an attempt to sweep to the short boundary and he is almost yorked as Dawson knocks over the leg stump.

Now can Hampshire follow it up with a couple more wickets?

  16. Postpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 20 April

    Derbys v Leics 203-3

Two Australians batting together now for Leicestershire and Peter Handscomb drives the ball back past a sprawling Blair Tickner for four to push the total beyond 200.

Opener Marcus Harris is still there, in no more of a hurry than he was yesterday, and is now on 91 not out

  17. wicket

WICKET: Waite c Robinson b Raine 0published at 11:47 British Summer Time 20 April

    Worcs 115-6 v Durham 244

    Problems for the Pears.

Matthew Waite only lasts six balls before being caught behind off Ben Raine, who is very much the Durham danger man at present.

The hosts still trail by 129 and only have four wickets left.

That promising start seems a while ago already.

  18. Five!published at 11:44 British Summer Time 20 April

    Hampshire v Warwickshire 379-4

Dan Mousley goes for a quick single and Nick Gubbins goes for the run out.

Mousley is in, the ball misses the stumps and runs off for four overthrows.

It's a lesser spotted five to add to the Warwickshire total.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Jake Libbypublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 20 April

    Worcs 111-5 v Durham 244

The Worcestershire opener takes a single off Matthew Potts and acknowledges the applause for reaching a half-century from 101 balls.

He's really anchored the innings when his side has needed him to.

  20. Five wickets for Ben Sandersonpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 20 April

    Northants v Glamorgan 236-9

    Ben SandersonImage source, Getty Images

He may never play a game of international cricket but there are few more reliable seamers around than Ben Sanderson.

Glamorgan loan signing Brad Wheal edges to the keeper and that is the 19th time Sanderson has taken five or more wickets in a first-class innings.

No wonder head coach John Sadler said of him last evening: "Ben Sanderson was magnificent, relentless, keeps asking questions every ball."
