"I want to see England bring back James Tredwell - he has never let England down. They can't rely on Moeen Ali and Joe Root because they are still learning their craft, while the fast bowlers all do the same thing - there's no variation.

"I'd like to see James Taylor back at number three and also Alex Hales back in. He's chomping at the bit and he has scored runs for England in big games before."

England's dismal start to the World Cup will have no bearing on Monday's match against Scotland in Christchurch, says batsman Ian Bell.

England are bottom of Pool A after a 111-run defeat by Australia and an eight-wicket thrashing by New Zealand in their opening two games.

"Even though what's happened has been so bad, it's irrelevant to what happens when we play Scotland," said Bell. "It's about how we react. We have to put in a good performance, turn up and play our best cricket."

"Wayne Parnell's economy rate (9.44) is the worst in a World Cup match for South Africa by anyone bowling at least nine overs and the equal fourth worst in all World Cup matches."

"The crowd were on their feet for nearly the entire final 15 overs. The Bhangra music has started, Miss Pooja's 'Lovely' has got everybody's hips moving, the drums are being beaten, the Mexican wave is making the rounds and the fans are loving life.

"There is set be an attempt to record the loudest crowd at a cricket match during the interval and it's impossible to see how it won't be broken at a packed and raucous MCG."

India's Shikhar Dhawan: "I really enjoyed batting. I knew I was playing well because I got some fifties in practice games. I took my time and later on capitalised. It was important to carry on the momentum. The wicket was really good. It's a challenging total and the first 10 overs will be crucial for us."

  11. Ind 307-7published at 07:27 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

England could learn a lot from South Africa. The Proteas are bowling fast, straight and full. Their fielding is incredibly dynamic too. Mo Shami gives India a late push with a boundary off Dale Steyn, but the final 10 overs go for just 80 runs. Not a bad result for South Africa, who will need 308 to win.

"South Africa have done really well in the last three or fours over - they've pulled it bad a bit. They've not let their heads drop, even when the ball was flying everywhere, so well done."

  13. Ind 302-7published at 07:23 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

I bet AB De Villiers is brilliant at knocking down the coconut shy at a funfair (47.2 overs). He's probably got hundreds of cuddly toys at home. The umpire knew what was coming, if not Ravindra Jadeja, as he hurriedly ran to mid-on. India are past 300 now. Is that par? Above par? Or below par?

  16. Ind 297-6 (Dhoni 17, Ashwin 0)published at 07:17 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

MS Dhoni injects some life into this spluttering Indian innings by clattering Wayne Parnell for three consecutive boundaries all round the wicket. A score of 300-plus looks a shoo-in now.

How good is AB de Villiers? Ravindra Jadeja makes the mistake of taking on the South African's arm at mid-off and from the best part of 20 yards, the stumps are thrown down. Another wicket for the Proteas.

  20. Ind 284-5 (run-rate: 6.04)published at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

South Africa have pulled this one back really well. MS Dhoni looks like he's nipped out for a Sunday afternoon hit with his mates as he takes on the leg-spinner Imran Tahir without a helmet. Old school. A good over by the Proteas - just six runs from it.
