Prashant Srivastava:, external We have seen so many first inns getting extended 15-30 mins due to slow over rates. Why can't we extend in situations like this?

OK, so here is the state of play... We are currently in a 45-minute interval with India needing 15 more runs to successfully chase down UAE's 102. The men at the crease are Rohit Sharma (47) and Virat Kohli (27). Earlier, Ravi Ashwin took four wickets as the UAE were dismissed for the lowest score of the World Cup so far.

On Test Match Special at the interval (which will take place as scheduled at 10:00 GMT, even if India only need one run to win), they'll be speaking to the Emirates Cricket Board chief executive David East - who may be more familiar to UK listeners as a former Essex wicketkeeper and chief exec.

They'll also be looking back at this morning's incredible game in Auckland where New Zealand edged out Australia in a thriller, and England women's ODI series victory against New Zealand.

"If India had been put in to bat first it would have been carnage.

"Against that UAE attack that I have just witnessed they would have scored upward of 400 I reckon."

And so, with India having scored five off Karate's second over, to leave them just 15 short of victory, we are ludicrously taken into a 45-minute interval. Utter nonsense.

"India only need another three or four over max and the game is over. That would take 10 to 15 minutes tops, so it seems a little ludicrous to be about to have a 45-minute interval."

  9. Ind 83-1 (Rohit 45, Kohli 24)published at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Captain Mohammad Tauqir brings himself into the attack for some very gentle off-spin. He beats a huge swing from Rohit with his third ball and Swapnil Patil prompts a review by whipping off the bails, but the batsman is back in his ground. Rohit then punishes a couple of loose deliveries; smashing the first through extra cover for four before hammering the second down the ground for the same result.

  11. Ind 72-1 (target 103)published at 09:54 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Guruge is given a rest after an opening spell of six overs, that went for an economical 19. His replacement is Karate but there are no Daniel Larusso-style heroics from the medium pacer, who is worked around for a couple of singles before Kohli crashes a drive for four.

  12. Ind 66-1 (Kohli 18, Rohit 34)published at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Kohli welcomes Javed back by middling a straight ball between mid-wicket and mid-on for four. The bowler tightens up his line and concedes just one more run through a Kohli drive towards mid-off.

  16. Ind 59-1 (Rohit 33, Kohli 12)published at 09:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

We do have a bowling change as Amjad Javed (a gentle right-arm medium pacer) comes into the attack. He is unable to stem the boundaries, though, as Rohit launches a drive over the infield and out to the extra-cover boundary. Three singles on top of that move India to within 45 runs of victory.

These two have clearly decided they want this game over as quickly as possible. The first ball of Guruge's fifth over is cut for four by Kohli, who adds another two runs with another cut between backward point and third man. Maybe time for a bowling change? Not that it'll change the inevitable result, just possibly delay its arrival.

"They have a wicket but they are just not doing enough to stay in this contest. India are jetsetting their way towards victory."

Rohit swings hard at a short ball from Naveed and picks up another boundary. He repeats the trick with the same aggression for a another pulled four and then drives a third. If he keeps this up, this run chase is going to be over in no time. Rohit is 27 from 29 balls and batting himself back into form.
