  1. UAE 44-4 (run-rate 2.75)published at 07:43 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Another worrying moment for UAE as Khurram edges one off Mohit but it goes wide of slip and down to third man for a single. Anwar sees off a couple of balls before pulling one to mid-wicket to get off the mark. Khurram gets away with another as he inside edges past his stumps to claim another single.

"I think UAE did the right thing batting first. It is the only chance you have against the big Test-playing nations.

"The crowd would have probably liked to have seen India bat first and have a good knock. But you can't criticise the UAE for their decision, it was the right thing to do."

  3. UAE 41-4 (Khurram 12, Anwar 0)published at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

In comes the UAE danger man, Shaiman Anwar, who became their first ever World Cup century-maker in the game against Ireland after having scored 67 against Zimbabwe. A drinks break gives him time to settle before driving one to cover for no run.

"Ashwin gets extra bounce and that was a beautiful piece of bowling. It was the quicker arm ball, slightly wider of off stump than his normal deliveries and it got the outside edge.

"It is just too much for the UAE batsman and I just can't see them recovering from here."

Ashwin strikes again with a slightly quicker ball outside off stump that Patil dabs at and edges for Shikhar Dhawan to dive and catch low down. India are pressing home their advantage. There is no way this game is going the distance.

"This is David and Goliath stuff. UAE have done really well in their first two games against Zimbabwe and Ireland but this is a major step up.

"There is a long way to go though, and a lot can still happen."

  7. UAE 36-3published at 07:33 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Mohit delivers the first maiden of the innings as Patil patiently avoids playing at a few tempting deliveries outside off stump before keeping out a dangerous inswinger.

"The former UAE captain Khurram Khan - batting now - used to be a flight attendant and once served Brian Lara on a flight. I wonder what they talked about.

"It must have been a fascinating conversation. Or did he just stay quiet and not admit who he was?"

  9. UAE 36-3 (Patil 6, Khurram 9)published at 07:28 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Ashwin continues and the UAE pair do well to push him around for a couple of singles - with a dab to third man and then a steer through square leg. The ground is starting to fill up now, mainly with India fans, who are understandably enjoying themselves. Their team is well on top.

  10. UAE 34-3 (Khurram 8, Patil 5)published at 07:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Patil has come in with a bit of intent. A wide, short ball from the newly introduced Mohit Sharma is cut away to the backward point boundary for four. Mohit responds well, utilising some inswing to keep Patil on his toes.

"India will be very happy. They are doing the basics very well.

"A few bowlers will be licking their lips today and trying to get some figures in.

"For the UAE it is a lot to have to face. Only one or two of their players will have faced India before."

  12. UAE 29-3 (Patil 1, Khurram 8)published at 07:21 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

A great start from Ashwin, whose height, combined with this bouncy track, is a potent combination. Karate couldn't deal with it and neither Khurram or new man Swapnil Patil looked comfortable.

"I thought the spin might suit UAE, with the pace taken off it. But I take that back now.

"Karate tried to work it around the corner but he should have known the man was there. Decent bowling but inexperience from the batsman."

UAE get some respite from the pace, as off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin enters the attack but it proves to be the undoing of Karate, who dabbles at one to turn it to leg but only succeeds in gloving it on to his thigh pad and then to Suresh Raina at leg slip.

"I watched a fair bit of India in the tri-series and it is almost as if they are a different team now.

"It was as if they had given up the ghost for a while. They didn't even step it up against England in the tri-series.

"But they've come back so strongly with these last two wins. There must have been some strong words said by somebody somewhere along the line."

  16. UAE 28-2 (Karate 4, Khurram 8)published at 07:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Billy Bowden turned down a good lbw shout earlier in the innings. Now it is Michael Gough's turn to shake his head after Yadav slams the ball into Khurram's pads. It is a good call, as replays show the ball was pitching outside the line. Karate gets lucky later in the over when his nicks one through the slips. Khurram then survives a couple of hairy moments when he plays and misses. The pressure is building.

On UAE's India-born duo of Krishna Chandran and Swapnil Patil:

"Apparently Patil's brother will still be supporting India, even though his brother is in the UAE side. It must be an amazing emotion for those two players. They were born in India and grew up supporting them.

"Then to come out on the big stage... they will probably have mixed emotions, but deep down they will really want to show India that they have what it takes."

  18. UAE 24-2 (Khurram 7, Karate 3)published at 07:09 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

There has already been a few lofty shots from the UAE batsmen (two of which have fallen just short of fielders) and Khurram produces another, this time earning himself a four through the empty spot at third man. It is the second boundary of the innings. Karate is handed back the strike by his partner and has to deal with a nasty bouncer from Kumar.

"It was always going to be tough for UAE. They are up against superstar millionaires. They did really well against Ireland and Zimbabwe in their first two games but that little bit of extra pace has undone them so far.

"Going up against best is always a tough ask, but it is good to see India are on the money as well."

  20. UAE 18-2 (Khurram 2, Karate 3)published at 07:06 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Yadav is putting it through at a fair old pace. He keeps the UAE on the back foot. Literally. An early wide a flick from Khurram to leg add a couple to the total but Karate is fortunate not to nick a full delivery with a flashing drive that misjudged the line.
