Ravichandran Ashwin, the pick of the Indian bowlers with 4-25 off 10 overs: "We mixed up the pace of the bowling really well.

"I'm enjoying the tournament. I've just gone about my business. I want to bowl all the time, and when the team needs someone to put the hand up I will. It's not about my figures, it's about the team.

"It was a hard time for us coming into this World Cup but we always knew that when the tournament came we would pick things up."

So, thanks largely to that 31-run partnership between Anwar and Guruge (comfortably the biggest of the innings) the UAE narrowly avoid becoming the first team to be bowled out for less than 100 by India in a World Cup. However, their 102 total is still the lowest ever made against an Indian side at the tournament.

"The UAE would have hoped to have represented themselves better today. They had two decent games coming into this and they'd have hoped to challenge a little more.

"But fair play to the Indians. They could have been lackadaisical, but they have been ruthless and clinical and done an excellent job in bowling the UAE out for just over 100."

The hundred is brought up for the UAE courtesy of an edge from Anwar, which goes straight between the India keeper Dhoni and slip Raina, who look at each other in bemusement. It is Anwar's final flourish, though, as he is then cleaned up by Yadav to end the innings.

"Guruge put a big stride in and let the hands go. I like that. He hit that boundary from the final ball as though he was a top order batsman."

  8. UAE 98-9published at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Guruge is putting his team-mates to shame here. He flat-bats five Jadeja deliveries before planting his foot and smashing the last through extra cover for four.

"There is a lot to do for the UAE, right? Lots of pressure, not much to work with.

"They needed someone today to stick around but it hasn't happened and it has been tough going.

"Anwar has needed someone to stay at the crease with him. He has played some classy shots. The four in that over was as fine as you'd get from anyone.

"If they can get to three figures it will give them a little something to work with, psychologically it is important."

  10. UAE 94-9 (Guruge 6, Anwar 31)published at 08:36 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Yadav returns to try and find this final wicket. Anwar attempts another pull but is on to it too early and gets a leading edge to mid-off. He moves into the 30s with a flick off his legs for four. He has been the only shining light for his side so far today.

  11. UAE 90-9published at 08:32 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

The big number 11 is having a go here. He might as well, he's got nothing to lose now. He swipes a single to leg before Anwar takes a more classical approach to earn another run through square leg. The UAE are edging towards 100.

  13. UAE 88-9 Guruge 5, Anwar 26)published at 08:29 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

UAE survive another lbw shout as Anwar sweeps. Jadeja thought it was pad, but replays show it was entirely bat. Odd appeal. Anwar makes better contact with a subsequent sweep that brings him four runs. This is now the best partnership of the match so far - 17 runs.

Phil Pass:, external ‏Waking up to the #bbccricket scores is a very different feeling each day depending who's playing. Still backing NZ, Aus, SA & Ind for semis. Feel sorry for UAE v India. First real mismatch (so it seems) of the tournament so far (other than games involving West Indies).

  16. UAE 84-9published at 08:27 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Guruge has a swing himself and adds three to the total with a drive through cover off Ashwin's first ball. Anwar steers his way to another single before the number 11 survives a half-hearted lbw shout and then edging wide of slip for two more. A rare decent over for the associate nation.

  17. UAE 78-9 (Guruge 0, Anwar 21)published at 08:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Anwar goes on the assault against Jadeja, carving one over cover for four before slashing another down towards third man for two more. It is all down to him now to help his side towards a three-figure total.

  18. UAE 76-9published at 08:22 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2015

Manjula Guruge is the last line of UAE resistance. He watches from the non-striker's end as the only man to have reached double figures in this innings, Anwar, sees off five balls before keeping striker with a single off the last from Ashwin. At least the UAE have made it to the halway point of their innings.

"This is a good wicket but UAE have just not been able to come to terms first with the bounce and then with the spinners.

"It is the dismissals by the spinners that has been the most disappointing thing, because you can understand the pace being a problem.

"But whatever, this innings is screaming to a halt."

The Indian spin assault continues and captain Tauqir is unable to provide any resistance. To be fair, he is his own worst enemy as he attempts to sweep and is bowled around his legs. I said earlier UAE would struggle to make 100. It looks like they might not even make 80.
