"Oh, Jimmy Jimmy". James Anderson has got this new ball singing concerto and England have a real chance of forcing victory. Marlon Samuels is the latest to go, just failing to withdraw his bat from an outswinger to get a little tickle through to Jos Buttler. A send-off from England? No, they'd rather celebrate. No words from Ben Stokes, just a look. Game. On.

Sam James: That was quite possibly the best thing Alastair Cook will do in his life. Ever.

Imogen: That catch was an emotional rollercoaster!

"Shivnarine Chanderpaul now has 158 runs in his last nine Test innings at an average of 17.55."

Not only is the Cook catch so brilliant, but the removal of Chanderpaul is so important because of his potential to frustrate England for long periods. Jermaine Blackwood is the new man, he got a hundred in the first Test, so there is still plenty of Windian resistance to come. But is there also a calypso collapso on the cards. Broad to Samuels, defence, then an arrowing bouncer ducked by Blackwood.

"That is a brilliant catch. There goes one of the batsmen who is capable of batting for a long time. Will that be the moment that turns the Test match?"

That puts me in mind of the catch Geraint Jones took at Old Trafford in the 2005 Ashes. Cook had to dive full length to his right, his arm fully outstretched, the hand initially pushing the ball up, then grasping it before it plonked on the turf. Credit to Anderson too, who went wide on the crease, drawing Chanderpaul into playing at a ball on off stump, before it darted away. England doing the business with the new ball.

"Full ball, going across Chanderpaul, it flew to second slip, Ian Bell was surprised by it. His hands immediately went to his head, thinking 'What have I done, I've dropped Chanderpaul.' But it was brilliant reactions from Alastair Cook."

What a catch! Brilliant from Alastair Cook! An edge from Shivnarine Chanderpaul is parried (dropped) by Ian bell at second slip, with Cook diving to grab the rebound at the second attempt. It's James Anderson again, enticing the limpet Chanderpaul to poke at an away-swinger. Big, big wicket. England definitely in the hunt. The Windies are effectively 73-4.

"Samuels is so slow and languid in his movements, just like Chris Gayle, his fellow Jamaican. But he does play the ball late, which is handy on this pitch."

The sun plays its familiar game of hide and seek behind the cloud as Stuart Broad serves up one of the worst deliveries of the day so far. Short and wide, a cut up and over by Samuels for four. When Samuels takes one, Chanderpaul assumes that glorious, familiar, unorthodox stance. Take guard somewhere near square leg, crouch over the bat, shuffle into position, don't look like getting anywhere near it, then nudge for one. That's the 17,644th single he's taken to long leg in his career. Or maybe I've made that up.

Anderson pokes his tongue out as he strains towards Chanderpaul, who is looking uncharacteristically nervous as he pokes and prods out side off stump. More movement, more good stuff from England. Another edge must be on the cards soon. England must be ready for the chance, dropped catches cos them in the first innings.

"This first period has been much more interesting than yesterday. The ball is hard so there's a more pace on deliveries and the ball is bouncing more. That gives the bowlers hope and I think they will cause Chanderpaul problems - he's not in the best of nick."

  14. WI 230-3 (lead by 65)published at 15:23 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

All of a sudden, there seems to be life in Grenada. On the pitch, the players buzz and chirp, while the Barmies sing to the trumpet in the stands. All because of a new bit of leather. That's what makes cricket the king of all sports for me, the number of variables. The galloping Broad is hitting the proud seam, sending Samuels' heart towards his mouth as one nips back in the direction of off stump.

Looking again, Geoffrey is dead right, it was an absolute screamer from Anderson, rising from a length that wasn't too short, even moving a touch off the seam to straighten as Brathwaite looked to get out of the way. Brilliant stuff. England have removed centurion Brathwaite, but will not be pleased to see Shivnarine Chanderpaul shuffle to the crease. He goes to bed dreaming of days when he can drop anchor.

"What a cracking delivery! That was a ripsnorter. He banged it in and it rose up sharply. It was dead straight, that was the key, and it surprised the batsman. What a breakthrough, what a ball!

"That might put the cat amongst the pigeons in the dressing room."

Got him! The new ball does the trick for England, with James Anderson producing a brute of a bumper to send Kraigg Brathwaite on his way. A short delivery bounces all the more when the leather is new, spearing into Brathwaite at neck-height, with the opener getting himself into a horrible tangle and fending to Joe Root at gully. England have found life in the pitch and maybe, just maybe, have as sniff.

Not only a new ball, but a slightly different live text page for us to work with - one that updates, hopefully. If you're eagle-eyed, you'll have made the switch. New ball, new bowler, new plan, Stuart Broad with catchers behind the bat and immediately making things happen. Scream for lbw against Brathwaite, rightly turned down for being leggy, with the young opener then slashing a drive over the slips. Encouragement for England.

  20. WI 219-2 (new ball available)published at 15:04 British Summer Time 25 April 2015

Still an over before the new ball is due, but James Anderson is already into the attack, perhaps to loosen up. He is bowling from the end that had to be repaired with some artificial turf yesterday, when the groundstaff ran out to hammer the biggest nails I've ever seen into the area where the bowlers have been taking off. Even with 79-year-old leather, Anderson asks questions with a tight line. The new nut is now ready to be brought from its bag.
