Quote MessageWhat an over - this is what England have been missing. I don't want to think about the past and hindsight, but she's needed now.
England (2pts) won by seven wickets
Eng 125-3 (Taylor 50, Edwards 39, Osborne 2-22)
Aus 122-8; Perry 30, Sciver 2-18

Hazell, a dark blue flannel tucked into the back of her trousers to dry the ball, is quickly though her over and Lanning can only play out the rest of the over.
Time for some off-spin from Danielle Hazell from the River End - with Lanning and Perry threatening to "go large", can Hazell put the brakes on? Lanning is deceived by her first ball and nearly chops the second onto the stumps, but a fluent sweep brings her two.

Quote MessageI'm excited by Dani Hazell, she's going to have to show them what they have been missing because I am getting a bit worried about Lanning and Perry!
Perry smacks Gunn straight back down the pitch and it cannons into the stumps. If Gunn had got a fingertip to it, Lanning would have been run out by a couple of yards. The Southern Stars captain, not having had much of the strike early on, has moved on to 19 from 13 balls.
Remember, England must win to keep the series alive.

Quote MessageThat was massive, she sees the length and just gets her hands through it brilliantly. There is a danger here because one thing Australia can do is hit sixes and they can catch up very quickly.
That's big! Seamer Jenny Gunn into the attack and Lanning lifts her first ball over long leg for six.
Captain Lanning adds a single, now Perry has a swing and it flies off the edge through third man for four. England can now put the field back, should they wish.

Quote MessageThe key thing is going to be building on this. I think Jenny Gunn would be a good bet to follow up the seamers.
Lanning goes for the big one against Shrubsole - down on one knee to slog-sweep high into the air but it's just short of the mid-wicket rope. The ball plugs in the dampish outfield and only just trickles onto the rope for four.

Quote MessageDespite this run they are on, Australia are not looking like they in are in form. They are just not finding solutions at the moment.

Quote MessageIf this continues I'd be tempted to keep the fielders in.
Brunt gets a third over, but it's doing the trick as the Yorkshire pace bowler is drying up the runs here with plenty of dot balls. The first boundary of the day comes from a very streaky inside edge from Lanning which goes between keeper Taylor and short fine leg Edwards, disappearing for four. We have only one over of powerplay fielding restrictions left.
Lanning, who's not had much of the strike so far, guides a single backward of square leg where skipper Edwards scurries after it. The veteran is not risking a sliding stop after the rain we had earlier - but her younger team-mates are. Now, how long will Edwards keep going with her opening bowlers?

Quote MessageYou can feel the dot balls adding up and you can see Perry getting tetchy. They are not sure where their scoring options are.
Perry pushes a quick single to Jenny Gunn at mid-on, who hits the stumps at the bowler's end with a rapid throw - but the equally rapid Perry had made her ground.
Perry steers Brunt for a two, but every dot ball is being cheered by this enthusiastic Chelmsford crowd. Danielle Hazell takes a blow on the left hand as she tries to cut off the ball with a leap at cover point - thankfully for England it's not her bowling hand.
