Quote MessageThis is exactly what England needed. A brilliant over from Brunt backed up by Shrubsole and Sarah Taylor keeping up the pressure by standing up to the stumps.
Villani c & b Shrubsole 1 (Aus 5-1)
Keeper Sarah Taylor comes up to the stumps, and if it was an attempt to unsettle Villani, it's worked as the right-hander gets a leading edge and spoons the easiest of return catches to the delighted Shrubsole.
The only bad news for England is that wicket means Aussie captain Meg Lanning - arguably the best player in the world of women's cricket at the moment - is now in.
Brunt's regular partner-in-(fast bowling)-crime Anya Shrubsole will begin from the River End - there's no slip fielder in for her, and a quick shuffle of the field after one delivery, though she then bowls a wide. Danielle Wyatt, lively as ever in the field, makes a smart stop at short third man.

Quote MessageGood start from Katherine Brunt. You could see both batsmen shape as if the ball had some movement on it. That's a good positive start.
Villani gets Australia under way with a delicate single off her legs. Brunt keeps it tight early on, getting down well to field a leading edge from Perry off her own bowling. Perry is up and running with a single down to Natalie Sciver, one of the two permitted boundary fielders, at deep square leg.

Quote MessageThey have to keep it full today to extract any moisture from the pitch.
It's Elyse Villani (with just one "l" in her first name) and Ellyse Perry (with two) opening the innings for Australia. Katherine Brunt, pumped up with enthusiasm as ever, is opening the bowling from the Hayes Close End. Here we go!

Quote MessageThis is the biggest challenge for a long time for England. There has been a lot of scrutiny with professional contracts. This is a big moment for English women's cricket.
Huge jets of flame shoot into the air as England take the field in their "solar red" (orange to you and me) T20 kit - captain Charlotte Edwards shields her eyes at one point.

Quote MessageIt's going to be absolutely massive to see how they approach it. You could see how painful it was to lose the Test.

Quote MessageI've seen several Minions from the film Despicable Me here. They've also appeared in their own film, Minions.

Quote MessageIf there is one county ground you can count on a sold-out, raucous crowd to greet the England Women's side, it's at Essex. The sun's out and spectators have turned out in droves to cheer the home side out at a ground where they've never lost. Many of the Australian players' most memorable moments of the 2013 Ashes series came at Chelmsford, where a group of blue Smurfs were involved in some jesting with the players. Hopefully they've returned!
If you've not read England vice-captain Heather Knight's latest column on the BBC Sport website, she doesn't pull her punches about their disappointing batting performance in the Test - and also explains why she doesn't think lighter balls or shorter pitches would benefit women's cricket.
Ellyse Perry, padded up, is carefully tying her ponytail as she limbers up to open the innings for Australia, before donning her dark green helmet. Australia have an air of confidence, as well they might.

Quote MessageThe key thing for England is trying to get over the hangover of the Test. Chelmsford, or "Fortress Chelmsford" as I should call it, has good returns for the players. The big names have done it here - Edwards, Taylor - they love this ground.
f you're just out for the evening, don't forget you can sign up for wicket alerts on your phone via the BBC Sport website. And with TMS available via the BBC Sport app and BBC iPlayer Radio app, you really no longer have no excuse not to follow the game...

Quote MessageHaving seen the rehearsals I can tell you there are going to be all sorts of pyrotechnics when the players walk out onto the field.

Quote MessageGrace Harris - not only does she hit sixes, she hits flat sixes. We know England have this problem where they didn't hit a single six in the last World Twenty20. I think we should see a few clearing the boundaries this evening.
