Summary

  • Eng 114-5 - win by five wickets

  • Sciver hits career-best 47 for England

  • Aus 111 all out - Shrubsole 4-11, Sciver 4-15

  • Blackwell 24 & Harris 24 (3 sixes)

  1. Aus 20-2published at 4.3 overs

Brunt has a gully in place for Perry, who squeezes a single past that fielder down to the scampering Danielle Wyatt at third man. But when Brunt digs one in too short, it's meat and drink for Cameron to swat it through mid-wicket for four.

With the movement Shrubsole is getting - starting wide and making the ball jag back - the Australia batters might be better moving over to off stump and playing to leg.

  3. Aus 15-2 (Cameron 5, Perry 2)published at 4 overs

Shrubsole serves up a full toss, Cameron heaves it down the leg side and it's a chase for skipper Charlotte Edwards down towards the River Taff as they come back for two. But that's the only scoring shot of the over as Shrubsole keeps it tight.

As the crowd slowly filters in on this overcast Bank Holiday Monday, they show their appreciation for Anya Shrubsole as she trots to boundary after an excellent first over. Walking in this morning, many fans admitted their disappointment in England’s performances but refreshingly, many added that having watched women’s cricket for the first time this summer, they’ve been impressed by the quality and potential within both sides.

  5. Aus 13-2published at 3 overs

Perry is the third of the four Australian batters to get off the mark with a single off her first ball (Villani managed it off the second). In fact, it's two singles apiece off the over.

  7. Aus 9-2 (Shrubsole 1-0-2-2)published at 2 overs

The Aussie pair crossed on that catch, so number three Jess Cameron sees off the last ball of the over before conferring with number four Ellyse Perry, who was dropped down from the opener's role today but finds herself at the crease in the second over.

Everything is going England's way. Shrubsole really makes things happen. She gets the ball to come back in, has the one that holds its line and generates pace. She is in her element at the moment.

    Villani c Greenway b Shrubsole 5 (Aus 9-2)

Somerset's Shrubsole strikes again as Villani tries a big heave over mid-wicket, the ball skies into the air off a leading edge and the safe hands of Lydia Greenway are underneath it at point. She makes no mistakes, and Australia's openers are back in the hutch.

We've said the bowling has been up to standard. That was brilliant. Shrubsole is getting shape and started it a bit wider. Unplayable. This is just what England needed.

    Lanning b Shrubsole 2 (Aus 8-1)

Great delivery from Anya Shrubsole - after starting with a wide, she bowls Lanning with a superb inswinger that  moves in off the seam and leaves the Southern Stars skipper beaten all ends up.

We've seen through this series that Villani likes it short. Brunt likes to go short to her but she is always up to it. The pitch looks like it is coming on.

  13. Aus 7-0 (Lanning 2, Villani 5)published at 1 over

Villani and Lanning help themselves to a couple of singles, there's a half-hearted appeal for leg before as Villani tries to heave across the line, but Villani recovers to pull a short ball for the first boundary of the day.

England are in their familiar "solar red" (orange) shirts, although a few are wearing sleeveless slipover jumpers. These appear to be a more genuine shade of red than the shirts... or it may just be the contrast on our TVs.

Lanning is a good all-round player. But she does like the pace coming on. Her going up a place means that if Brunt and Shrubsole are off the mark she could get away.

  15. Aus 1-0published at 0.2 overs

Yep, we're starting early. Captain Meg Lanning takes the first ball, knocking it for a single, bringing her partner Elyse Villani on strike - she plays and misses at her first delivery from Brunt.

Katherine Brunt is marking out her run-up at the River End, the players are ready to go and we might even start a mintue or two early here.

What I think Australia are doing is preparing themselves for the next two series. They face India next and they are trying out some things and looking to make a few tweaks.

Vice-captain Heather Knight recently told us: "We love cap presentations as a squad, not only because we massively enjoy each other's success, but also because we use it as a competition to see who can look the most elated or dorky in the background of the shot."
