  1. Eng 87-3 (Morgan 52, Taylor 24)published at 18 overs

James Taylor is allowing his batting partner to be the aggressor, content to knock the ball into gaps and put the skipper back on strike. Good plan.

Morgan, mind, has been beaten by Wahab Riaz a couple of times. Perhaps deceived by pace and a lack of bounce. One for the leader to be mindful of.

James Boswell: Morgan is a real success story, a man who's kept on learning and progressing. Keep it up skip.

Bob Hawkins: When England needed a captain's innings... Morgan's served one up, well played.

"It's been regular stuff from Morgan, not too much improvisation. He's looked extremely secure and has got this innings back on track."

  4. 50 runs

50 for Eoin Morgan (off 50 balls)published at 17 overs

    Eng 86-3

Time for some off-spin from Bilal Asif, who has five wickets in three ODIs. He's had his action cleared by the ICC and immediately hits a groove. He looks like somebody who will keep things tight and he rushes the batsman. Eoin Morgan though is not fazed and he waits for a short ball and pulls it for four. Fifty up for the skipper, his seventh of the calendar year and 29th in total.Captaincy suits him.

  6. Eng 79-3 (Morgan 47, Taylor 21)published at 16 overs

Pakistan turn to the extreme pace and reverse swing of Wahab Riaz. He of the dodgy hair and tight-fitting trousers. James Taylor begins the over by looking around the field and making a mental note of potential scoring areas. He duly takes a single, allowing Eoin Morgan to also dink a single down to third man. Plenty of strike rotating.

Andy Carmichael: Hales should be dropped on the back of only scoring 10. For sure. As should Root. He got a duck. Useless.

Andy (not the same one): In defence of Hales, he gets out trying to accelerate in ODI cricket, not because he can't play. One score and he'll be away.

HAL's Pal: How long before someone pipes up telling us how Michael Carberry is the way forward (despite being 35)?

Liam Johnson: Surely James Vince should get a go now...

Harry O'haye: Morgan may not have runs in County Championship, but look at Bairstow! Morgan a man for big games. Shore up Test middle order!

  11. Eng 76-3 (Morgan 46 off 42)published at 15 overs

Let's give Eoin Morgan credit. He's spoken a lot about being positive and the "brand" of cricket his team play, and he's showing that here. Rather than dig in for 10 overs as England might have done in the past, he's scoring at more than a run a ball. James Taylor too is busy at the crease. Another seven from the over, including a cut for four from the skip.

"Morgan doesn't just guide away a reverse sweep, he really clobbers it."

  13. Eng 69-3 (Morgan 41, Taylor 17)published at 14 overs

Eoin Morgan is leading from the front here, a real captain's knock as he reverse-sweeps Yasir Shah for four. He's on for a big one if he keeps his discipline.

  15. Eng 61-3 (Morgan 34, Taylor 16)published at 13 overs

Shoaib Malik races through another over - it's spin from both ends now - and we're into that stage of an ODI where the batsman hits the ball into gaps for ones and twos.

You're right. The video we found was from 2000, but the song was released in 1998. A great year for music, 98. Aqua had two number ones and Cher's Believe was top of the charts for about six months.

  18. Eng 57-3 (partnership 43)published at 12 overs

You thought England were in a pickle before this over... now Pakistan have turned to leg-spinner Yasir Shah. The Test lads struggled to cope with him, so I worry for the ODI boys.

Both Eoin Morgan and James Taylor are watchful, the latter using his feet to punch a single. Good batting. I like JT - the future of English cricket across all formats. Along with Root, Stokes and Wood.
