"Du Plessis looks a different player from the defensive, nervous batsman we saw in the Test series - he got South Africa going this morning after a slow start."

  2. SA 57-2 (du Plessis 26, De Villiers 3)published at 13 overs

There's a group of spectators dressed head to toe in cricket whites. Weird concept that, if you're not playing. Imagine rocking up at Asda in their uniform.

"Don't mind me, all. Just doing my shopping."

Or to B&Q wearing an orange apron. "Can you pass me that step-ladder? I can't reach the paint."

Back to the cricket, Faf du Plessis is trying to get after Ben Stokes but fails to time it properly.

  4. SA 55-2 (du Plessis 25, de Villiers 2)published at 12 overs

Yes, Rash. Yes. The leg-spinner gets one to turn past AB de Villiers' outside edge. That'll plant some doubt. One from the over.

  6. Australia win in Wellingtonpublished at 08:51

Australia have won their second ODI against New Zealand at a canter in Wellington to square the Chappell-Hadlee series at 1-1.

Needing 282 to win, Mitchell Marsh (69 not out) and John "The Duke" Hastings (48 not out) saw the Aussies home with 21 balls to spare, adding 86 in 14 overs.

  7. SA 54-2 (Stokes 2-0-12-1)published at 11 overs

I have absolutely no idea what it's like in Port Elizabeth, so I just hit the information highway. Apparently, it's home to more indigenous plant species than the entire British Isles and used to be known as the 10-minute city because you can drive anywhere in that time-frame. Apparently, it's now the 15-minute city. Traffic, eh?

"AB de Villiers hasn't been in great touch, so South Africa will be hoping for a change of fortune."

His last four innings have been 0, 0, 0, 8.

"It was a beautiful delivery from Stokes, showing how to get a left-hander out if you're bowling right-arm over the wicket, and England have got rid of one of South Africa's danger men."

That's a big, big wicket. South Africa's first ODI centurion is sent packing, The ball was going to smash into off stump. On yer bike, Quinton. Enter AB.

"The only issue here is that Ben Stokes will often pitch the ball outside leg stump to a left-hander."

  12. Umpire reviewpublished at 10.4 overs

Ben Stokes does a goal-like cheer and then appeals when Quinton de Kock misses a straight one, playing across the line, and is hit in front. The finger goes up but the batsman reviews it.

"A poor over from Willey, possibly one over too many for him. South Africa have recovered from that poor start."

SA 52-1 (de Kock 22, du Plessis 24)published at 10 overs

South Africa have stopped Faff-ing about now! Du Plessis hammers David Willey back down the ground for four and then hammers a long hop for six. Quinton de Kock ends the over by smearing four through the off side. Shot!

"To punch the ball straight back down the ground like De Kock did there is a very difficult shot."

  16. SA 36-1 (SA won toss)published at 9 overs

Ben Stokes is brought into the England attack. On a breezy Port Elizabeth morning, he could get the ball hooping round corners. Looking for that swing, he pitches the ball up and Quinton de Kock drives him back down the ground for four - meeting the ball on the up with a little short-arm jab. Lovely.

  19. SA 27-1 (Willey 4-2-7-0)published at 8 overs

There's a small-scale carnival happening inside the ground today: brass band, bouncy castles, dancing. If you're watching or listening, it's hard not to be constantly tapping your foot. The antithesis to listening to a Craig David album. Did I hear Craig's making a musical return? Incredible.

Anyway, South Africa have settled down after that tough start and eek out another five runs.
