Summary

  • South Africa win series 3-2

  • Hosts won last three matches

  • England women win ODI series 2-1

  1. Eng 218-8 (Hales 106, Broad 6)published at 42 overs

You know what I was saying about Broad looking iffy against the short ball? Kagiso Rabada has spotted it too, with Broad getting in a right old tangle. Field changes, Broad expects more short stuff, with his feet now reluctant to come forward. It's Test-match stuff out there at the moment. The batsmen just trying to survive, accumulating at best. Hardly like the last 10 of an ODI.

  2. Women's ODI: SA v Englandpublished at 11:11

    SA 196-9 (50 overs)

England will need to score 197 to win the one-day series and pick up some vital ICC Women's Championship points. Anya Shrubsole was the pick of the bowlers with 3-35, while Lizelle Lee's 74 rescued the Proteas after they slipped to 85-6.

"If I hear one more word about playing attractive, aggressive, positive cricket... it's claptrap.

"It's kamikaze at times. You have to use your brains. If Morgan keeps playing shots like that, he'll get sacked. It's no good just getting a hundred on a flat one."

  4. Eng 215-8 (Hales 105, Broad 5)published at 41 overs

Though Hales has been brilliant, the rest of his team have been pony. England are still bang up against it and have to scratch their way through these final 10 overs. In the Cape Town sunshine, they do not have the luxury of going hard in the final 10. Singles the order in this Abbott over, with Stuart Broad looking ropey against both the short ball and the fuller one.

"Alex Hales has played beautifully - lovely footwork and timing. He's not just creamed it with power, he's timed the ball into gaps.

"I said that we needed one of the top three to get a hundred, but you can't believe how bad the other batsmen have played. They've been brainless. There's not been one dismissal where I could say it was a really good ball."

  7. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 40 overs

    Eng 212-8

Now, this is perhaps a drop, only the umpire didn't think Hales hit it. A pull shot at Morris, the ball flies down the leg side, where a diving Quinton de Kock can't cling on to a worldie. Hales has got some glove on it, but umpire Johan Cloete, Mr Magoo, hasn't spotted it and gives leg byes. A drop. Sort of.

100 for Alex Halespublished at 39.3 overs

    Eng 210-8

There it is! A century for Alex Hales! He gets to a second ODI ton with a lovely on-drive for four of Chris Morris. It continues a wonderful run of form in white-ball cricket - he averages more than 67 this winter. It's a muted celebration, helmet off, meek show of the bat. He knows there's more work to do...

Alex Hales must wait. He'll be very worried if Stuart Broad gets out in the next over, his fate would be in the hands of walking wicket Reece Topley...

"This series has been so good because it clearly matters to the players. The players will say every game is important and a matter of national pride, but every match is not equal."

  17. Eng 200-8published at 38.1 overs

Wiese to Hales, who takes the shortest of singles to mid-on. He's on 99. Remember, he's the only man to be out for 99 in both an ODI and a T20...

  18. Women's ODI: SA v Englandpublished at 10:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2016

    SA 176-8 (45.1 overs)

England have the wicket they wanted - Lizelle Lee falls to Jenny Gunn for 74, and the tourists should be able to wrap up this innings for under 200.
