  1. SL 143-4 (need 11 from 12 balls)published at 18 overs

Afghanistan order their drink in the Last Chance Saloon, throwing the ball to Dawlat Zadran. He bowls two lengths - very full and very short. Mathews gets lucky with an edge to third man for four, but then oozes class by clipping a full toss through the leg side for four. Sri Lanka are almost home and hosed.

  3. SL 131-4 (need 23 from 18 balls)published at 17 overs

Mathews looks to repeat the slog-sweep for six, not getting much bat on the ball. Much better is when he stands back to pull for four. The noise in the crowd is Sri Lankan - Afghan faces are increasingly glum.

A last over from the very impressive 17-year-old leggie Rashid Khan, with Graham Ford, who left his coaching role at Surrey to rejoin Sri Lanka, looking worried. He shouldn't be. Mathews lofts Rashid over mid-wicket from only the second ball he faces.

"Nabi would have known that wasn't a great delivery, but he might have got away with it without that misfield."

  7. SL 120-4 (need 34 from 24 balls)published at 16 overs

Looking again, Nabi didn't know a great deal about it, he just stuck out a hand. Dilshan is joined by Angelo Mathews, a pretty ideal candidate to complete a run chase. Oh no, Afghanistan have done it again! Another misfield on the boundary brings another four. A tidy over is spoiled.

Kapugedera run out 10 (SL 113-4)

Gone! Is this brilliant from Mohammad Nabi, or unlucky for Chamara Kapugedera? Dilshan drives the ball back at the bowler, who deflects the ball on to the non-strikers' stumps with Kapugedera out of his ground. What a way to go. Afghanistan hang in there.

"14 off that last over, Sri Lanka are starting to run away with it, and they might even think about net run-rate and how they can improve it by winning this game as soon as possible."

  10. ouch!

    SL 113-3 (need 41 from 30 balls)published at 15 overs

Oh dear. This is funny, but not for the poor chap in the crowd. The Dilshan six was heading towards a chap in a white uniform, who tried to field it. Instead, he took a blow in the chest and is now sitting down, looking sorry for himself. He's got a bottle of water and burly man giving him a rub. That might be enough to snap him back to health.

  11. 6 runs

    SL 106-3published at 14.2 overs

Here comes Dilshan! Low full toss from Hamid, swatted over the leg side for a maximum. He's totally in control of this chase.

"There was some clumsy fielding at the end of the 13th over, and then again at the end of the 14th. This time it's cost a boundary, it's something Afghanistan can't afford."

  13. SL 99-3 (need 55 from 36 balls)published at 14 overs

Chamara Kapugedera replaced Thisara Perera and is swiping at the returning leg-breaks of Rashid Khan. Dilshan remians happy with the singles on offer, almost biding his time for the right moment. It feels like it is going to be close, but you still fancy Sri Lanka, especially when a horrible misfield on the mid-wicket fence gives four to Dilshan.

"Dilshan's played very well, it's almost as though he's come out with a slightly different game plan in this match. He hasn't tried to flay it everywhere."

    Afg 92-3

The old master is doing the business for Sri Lanka here. Tillakaratne Dilshan got two ducks in the warm-up matches, but will surely take his team to victory if he remains at the crease. 50 from 37 balls.

"That was a surprise for the Afghanistan team. They weren't banking on it."

  17. SL 90-3published at 12.3 overs

Looking again, the ball barely went 10 yards away. It must have been Thisara's call, so he has no one else to blame. He could have dived too. Meanwhile. Dilshan flays a boundary to go to 49.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.1 overs

Thisara run out 12 (SL 85-3)

Listen to the roar! Thisara Perera can't believe he's been given out, but the decision is correct. He called Dilshan through when the ball went behind the wicketkeeper. Mohammad Shahzad was quick to the ball, had his glove off and threw down the stumps. Perera only had his bat on the line, so has to go. A sniff for Afghanistan.

A short single, a direct hit. Afghanistan aren't hopeful, but we'll take another look...
