This Sri Lanka opening pair are allaying any nerves that might have existed after that Afghan onslaught. Twice Dilshan takes Hamid over the leg-side for four, the second helped by a full toss. At the moment Afghanistan's bowlers, usually potent, are not finding the right areas. However, congratulations should go to Hamid for his sky blue spikes. Snazzy.

Oh yes! Nailed it! Dilshan takes a couple of steps towards the pace of Dawlat Zadran and swats over mid-wicket for six beans.

Good pace from Hassan, lift too taking the ball past the outside edge of the wafting Chandimal. Dilshan, familiar bandana poking underneath is helmet, is also swiping without success. Very good over from Hassan, only two from it.

Karim is round the wicket, tucking up the right-handed Chandimal. The keeper, the man axed as skipper midway through the successful campaign two years ago, walks across to sweep for four to get things going, then dances to loft over mid-wicket for the first maximum. Just the start Sri Lanka needed.

We discussed his then recent innings of 333 against India, whilst trying to avoid awkward eye contact....
