And time to call a halt to today's proceedings. Stephan Shemilt's match report is there for you to read, but more importantly (sorry Stephan), there's plenty of highlights of both of today's games for you to watch on the BBC Sport website - either use the "Highlights" tab at the top of the page, or scroll back through the game on this page to relive all the key moments in context.

We'll be back tomorrow morning at about 09:00 GMT to bring you live text (and highlights) on Scotland v Zimbabwe - and then highlights of Hong Kong v Afghanistan. Do join us then - and enjoy your evening.

  2. Table talkpublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Time to get our breath back after that enthralling game. The embryonic Group A table looks something like this:

    1. Bangladesh - P1, W1, NRR +0.40, Pts 2
    2. Oman - P1, W1, NRR +0.28, Pts 2
    3. Ireland - P1, L1, NRR -0.28, Pts 0
    4. Netherlands - P1, L1, NRR -0.40, Pts 0

The teams remain in Dharamsala for the next round of Group A fixtures on Friday, when Netherlands face Oman and Ireland take on Bangladesh. For the Irish, it's win or go home.

Ireland batsman Gary Wilson on Sky Sports: "Pretty tough to take on the first game of the tournament. If we had our day again, we'd be pretty disappointed if it went the same way. I don't think we can put it down to the dew, we had rags out there. Their spinners bowled with low actions, it wasn't easy but we shouldn't make excuses. We were happy at half-time, we had 154 on the board and thought it was a winning score."

On the death bowling: "Max Sorensen has done it before - Max, Kevin and Murts were probably the three who can do it, Murts had gone for a few runs so that's probably why William threw the ball to Max."

  5. Captain's viewpublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Ireland captain William Porterfield: "We were quite confident with what we had at half-time, but it's still in our hands - we've got to go back, regroup, win two games and give ourselves a chance. The dew was a little slippery but we're not going to use that as an excuse, we dried the ball plenty."

  6. Captain's viewpublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Oman captain Sultan Ahmed: "It's a great win, we're very excited, I'm speechless. We lost the toss and tried to restrict them to 150, but we had the capability to chase 150. If we beat Netherlands and Bangladesh, we're through!"

Shane: Oh my what a match!! OMAN!!! Has to be said though terrible choice of death bowler by the Irish there.

  8. The final (over) analysispublished at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

What an eventful over, looking back. So we had six deliveries (four legal) as follows:

    1. High full toss/beamer (no-ball), hit for four
    2. Free hit ball, yorker, hits stumps, one run taken
    3. High-ish full toss, hit for four through third man
    4. Short ball, single taken
    5. WICKET - catch by the keeper that the batsman might not have actually hit
    6. High full toss/beamer (no-ball), through the keeper for four byes

I don't think Max Sorensen is going to get an IPL contract as a death bowler on that evidence. To be fair to him, he was the seventh bowler, and might not have expected to be handed the last over. And there will be debate over why Boyd Rankin (who bowled the 19th) only bowled three overs.

The Mighty Mojo: That is one of the worst final overs I've ever seen. Ireland gave that match away.

Majid: As I expected, Oman hits the World Twenty20 with a bang, but no champagne though.

Our "champagne moment" graphic is metaphorical rather than literal!

  10. "Shocking"published at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Some strong words from RTE's John Kenny (an occasional BBC Test Match Special commentator on Ireland games):

  11. Man of the matchpublished at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Oman's Amir Ali (speaking through an interpreter), who made 32 from 17 balls: "God has helped us, I was trying to get boundaries in every over. We have done a lot of hard work before coming here and it has paid off."

  12. Postpublished at 17:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Ireland, in the past decade, have so long been the Associate team who have been giant-killers at ICC events.

Pakistan in 2007, England in 2011, West Indies in 2015... but today, the giant-slayers have become the slayed giants.

The height of that full toss means it was a no-ball, so the record will show that Oman won by two wickets with two balls to spare (rather than one). Their players and coaching staff are absolutely jubilant, as well they might be.

  14. champagne moment

    Oman 157-8

Munis Ansari in, it's a high full toss, he misses it... and it goes through the keeper for four byes, Oman have won!

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.4 overs

    Amir Ali c N O'Brien b Sorensen 32 (Oman 152-8)

Big changes in the field for Amir Ali back on strike. Appeal for a catch behind, given!

Even worse for Oman, the TV replay suggests he didn't nick it... Three needed from two balls.

  16. Oman 152-7 (target 155)published at 19.3 overs

Lalcheta hit on the body, single taken. Three from three needed.

  17. Oman 151-7 (target 155)published at 19.2 overs

Lalcheta swipes a full toss for four past the keeper! Four from four needed!

It was also quite high - but the umpire signalled it was below waist height.

  18. Oman 147-7 (target 155)published at 19.1 overs

The free-hit ball is a yorker "bowls" Amir, but as it was a free hit he can't be out and runs a bye. Eight needed from five.

  19. Oman 146-7 (target 155)published at 19 overs

High full toss to the diminuitive Amir Ali, he hooks it for four, it's a no-ball, a free hit and a four! Disastrous! Nine needed from six balls.

  20. Postpublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2016

Seamer Max Sorensen to bowl, 14 needed from six. Amir Ali to face.
