Summary

  • Oman chase 155 with two balls to spare

  • Sorensen no-ball goes for four to seal Oman win

  • Oman's first game at global tournament

  • Bangladesh beat Netherlands in earlier game

  1. Oman 141-7 (target 155)published at 19 overs

The field creeps in for new batsman Ajay Lalcheta, who misses the ball but somehow conjures a leg bye. Rankin finishes with an excellent yorker which Amir Ali can only dig out for a single. 14 needed from the last over, time to go ball-by-ball!

    Sultan run out (N O'Brien) 1 (Oman 139-7)

Sultan swings, he's called through for a run but keeper Niall O'Brien's underarm throw breaks the stumps. Panic stations for Oman - still 16 needed from eight balls and wickets running out.

  3. Oman 139-6 (target 155)published at 18.3 overs

Captain Sultan Ahmed the new batsman - with the current trend for keepers who bat in the top order, I wouldn't imagine many other keepers in this tournament will bat at number eight. He's off the mark with a single. Amir is tucked up for room and hit in the midriff but scampers a single. 16 needed from nine balls.

    Jatinder b Rankin 24 (Oman 137-6)

Who to bowl? It's Boyd Rankin - who has the Test experience that the other 21 players in this game lack, but he was a little expensive earlier. Jatinder Singh on strike...

And he's bowled! Beaten for pace aiming a big heave to leg.

  6. Oman 137-5 (target 155)published at 18 overs

    (Jatinder 24, Amir Ali 26)

A tight O'Brien over ends with some ones and twos, just five runs from it - and Oman need 18 from 12 balls for a famous win.

    Oman 134-5

What an outstanding piece of fielding! Amir Ali launches O'Brien over mid-wicket, that looks as though it's going for six - but Gary Wilson leaps up and gets a hand to it, he can't hold on for the catch but he acrobatically flicks it back into play. Arguably he's saved five runs there.

  8. Oman 133-5 (target 155)published at 17.3 overs

Kevin O'Brien and his golden arm are recalled for his final over, Jatinder adds a single, but he keeps Amir tied down for two dot balls.

  9. Oman 132-5 (target 155)published at 17 overs

Long-off is brought up - so Amir lofts a first-bounce four exactly where long-off would have been! A very long over - Oman's best for a long while - ends with another sliced four past the keeper.

That over from Murtagh cost 20 runs, including a no-ball, two wides and three fours to end the over. Suddenly, Oman need an exceedingly do-able 23 from 18 balls!

  10. Oman 124-5published at 16.4 overs

Finally Murtagh finds his radar as Jatinder (who sports a black patka under his helmet) flicks a single off his legs. Then it's brilliant improvisation from Amir Ali as he feigns to walk outside off stump, then steps back and opens the face to tickle a four wide of third man.

  11. Oman 119-5published at 16.2 overs

The free hit ball is a wide yorker which Amir can't get away - but when Murtagh tries to repeat it, he pushes it too wide and the umpire stretches his hands. This is going to be a long over, only one legal delivery in the first three... A misfield earns Jatinder a second run - then Sorensen bowls another wide. Two legal deliveries out of five...

  12. Oman 114-5published at 16 overs

Porterfield has plenty of bowling options for the last four overs - O'Brien and McBrine have an over left, everyone else has two overs. He turns to Tim Murtagh, but the Middlesex man serves up a high full toss to Jatinder which is a no-ball - and a free hit!

  13. Oman 112-5 (target 155)published at 16 overs

Amir Ali looks for a second like he's eyeing up the leg-side boundary again - but bad communication between the batsmen denies them an eminently plausible second run when Amir steers one through the covers. But a nurdle down the leg side for four takes the required target to 43 from 24 balls. Amir has 12 from five.

  14. Oman 106-5published at 15.3 overs

Porterfield continues to swap his spinners over - Paul Stirling gets a second spell, but his first ball is a pie down the leg side which Jatinder shovels away for four. A delicate dab leaves 49 needed from 27.

John Michael Poole: Losing Maqsood is end game. They may just creep above my earlier prediction and be bowled out for 110.

  16. 6 runs

    Oman 101-5 (target 155)published at 15 overs

Oman need a partnership, and fast. Jatinder Singh is joined by the Bespectacled XI's Amir Ali, who only bowled one over of spin. Sorensen strays with his line, sending down a couple of legside wides, but Ireland's tails are noticeably up after that flurry of wickets. But Amir manages to launch a six over square leg - so Oman need 54 from the last 30 balls. Who's your shilling on?

    Kaleem lbw b McBrine 0 (Oman 90-5)

The rapid turnover of batsmen continues, the new man is left-hander Aamir Kaleem - and he departs second ball, trapped in front. Oman's wheels are coming off here.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.3 overs

    Mehran c Porterfield b McBrine 2 (Oman 89-4)

Cap'n Porterfield mixes up his bowlers as McBrine returns - Mehran skies one high into the Himalayan night sky and perishes as the skipper takes the catch at mid-wicket!

  20. Oman 87-3 (target 155)published at 13 overs

Mehram Khan is the new batsman - I did say earlier he wasn't a number 11... While Oman were favourites with the openers still together, Ireland have really pulled it back in the last four overs and must fancy their chances here. Oman need 68 from 42 balls, the required rate a shade under 10 an over.
