    Ilyas c Stirling b Sorensen 4 (Oman 86-3)

Max Sorensen is Ireland's seventh bowler, the TV caption's description of him as "fast-medium" is a mite generous - but he does the business as Adnan Ilyas spoons a catch to the delighted Stirling at backward point.

  2. Oman 83-2 (target 155)published at 12 overs

One off-spinner replaces another as Paul Stirling is into the attack. I'm almost afraid to call him a part-time spinner as he was extremely effective for Ireland in the World Cup. He's quickly through his over, and Oman take four singles from it. They need 72 from 48 balls.

  3. Oman 79-2 (target 155)published at 11 overs

Adnan Ilyas is the new batsman, off the mark with a single.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 10.4 overs

    Maqsood b K O'Brien 38 (Oman 78-2)

Kevin O'Brien's golden arm strikes again - and the danger man Zeeshan Maqsood has to go, another inside edge onto the timbers and Oman have to rebuild with two new batsmen.

  5. Oman 78-1 (target 155)published at 10.3 overs

A misfield by Boyd Rankin (well, he has a long way to get down from his height) allows Maqsood a second run as he moves to 37 from 31 balls - while the left-hander takes a chance with a lofted drive but it lands safely in front of Rankin at long-on.

  6. Oman 74-1 (Maqsood 35, Jatinder 2)published at 10 overs

McBrine spins down a second over, four singles from it.

Oman have reached the halfway stage and are almost halfway to their target, needing 81 from 10 overs. I'll leave you to work out the required run-rate.

  7. Oman 70-1 (target 155)published at 9 overs

Right-hander Jatinder Singh is the new batsman. Maqsood is still there on 33 from 27 balls.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.3 overs

    Khawar Ali b K O'Brien 34 (from 25 balls) - Oman 69-1

And having burned so brightly, Khawar's flame is extinguished as he chops the ball onto the top of middle stump and is bowled by the ebullient Kevin O'Brien for an exhilarating 34 from 25 balls.

Khawar swings his bat in anger as he walks off, nearly doing the celebrating O'Brien a serious injury! Perhaps O'Brien should stick to more sedate celebrations - like last year's World Cup when he celebrated dismissing UAE's Krishna Karate by doing "The Crane" pose from the film The Karate Kid.

  9. 6 runs

    Oman 69-1published at 8.2 overs

Kevin O'Brien has changed ends, but it's more of the same from Khawar Ali, stepping across to the off side and slog-sweeping for four, before launching a 92m six into the stands at mid-wicket!

  10. Oman 59-0 (target 155)published at 8 overs

That six has taken the pressure off Khawar, who's more watchful for the rest of the over before sweeping a single.

  11. 6 runs

    Oman 58-0published at 7.2 overs

Ireland turn to spin for the first time - off-spinner Andy McBrine, fresh from his little 20th-over cameo at the end of the Irish innings. Maqsood starts with a single, and Khawar doesn't need any kind of a sighter, launching his first ball from McBrine over long-on for a huge six! Bosh.

  12. Oman 51-0 (Maqsood 32, Khawar 17)published at 7 overs

At least Ireland can put some more of their fielders back now. But considering the success Oman had with a spin-heavy attack, I wonder if they regret leaving George Dockrell carrying the drinks? More punishment for Boyd Rankin as Khawar smashes a powerful four through the covers. A couple of singles mean this pair are celebrating Oman's first fifty stand at a major ICC event.

  14. Oman 44-0 (target 155)published at 6 overs

Kevin O'Brien into the attack at the College End, going round the wicket to the left-handed Maqsood - is pace off the ball the way to go? Oman are momentarily becalmed, taking a couple of singles while Maqsood lofts a two over the ring of cover fielders.

  16. Oman 39-0 (Maqsood 26, Khawar 11)published at 5 overs

Murtagh back, and Khawar Ali follows his partner's lead by carving a four past point. His first boundary on this, the biggest day in Oman's cricketing history. He crashes four more back past the bowler, and Oman are bang on course here. If anything, they're slightly ahead of the required rate. They need 116 more from 14 overs.

"Oman are looking to chase this down. The way they have begun will give real hope to their dug-out."

  18. Oman 31-0 (target 155)published at 4 overs

Young strays with a wide, Khawar Ali is playing the supporting role here as Maqsood aims another aerial blast over mid-wicket, this time a mis-hit bringing him two. When he does connect, it's four more through the same region.

If Ireland don't get Maqsood out, they could have a serious problem here...

"This what I love about looking at the Associate teams. Boyd Rankin has played a Test for England. Against Oman, you would think he could stop the runs."

  20. Oman 23-0 (Maqsood 20 from 12 balls)published at 3 overs

At last, Boyd Rankin is back in Ireland colours at an ICC event - but it's an unhappy beginning for big Boyd as Maqsood thrashes him through mid-wicket for back-to-back boundaries. Rankin finds a bit of extra bounce as Maqsood goes for the treble - but the Oman opener has the last laugh, crashing another four back past the bowler. Welcome back, Boyd.
