Oh no! Disaster for England! Badree's skidding leg spin does for Roy second ball as he is done right through the gate.

Purely on the basis of the musical quality of the two anthems, the West Indies are ahead.

Here we go. Strap yourselves in. Jason Roy and Alex Hales the openers for England. Samuel Badree has the ball in his hand for the West Indies...

Rich Adams: Had a go at the reverse sweep in the kitchen without a ball and broke the tea pot. The good lady not happy.

Simon: I once hit a perfect Dilscoop straight into the sightscreen for 4. Tried it again next ball, looped off my helmet to the keeper.

Here come the officials, followed soon after by both sets of players. They are welcomed to the field by a row of fireworks that are almost apologetic in their tameness. Don't worry, there'll be plenty of pyrotechnics on the pitch once the game gets under way.

"I think they need to bring Gayle forward early, England are going to have to get him in that first few balls before he gets going. He is two things, runs yes but there is a psychological thing, if he gets going the crowd are going to go crazy."

So, Chris Gayle then. England didn't need any reminder of what he is capable of before the opening game between the two. They certainly don't need one after it.

But, as the West Indies demonstrated in the semi-final against India, they are far more than Gayle and 10 others. Lendl Simmons, Johnson Charles, Andre Russell - just three players who have scant regard for the safety of spectators in the stands. They hit 11 sixes between them in that match. 11!
